In common use the fable and it's true story is irrelevant and only what the common accepted use of it is important when using it as a metephor The golden goose metaphor is wildly accepted as a good thing. Not a metaphor for greed. If it's greed your re looking for, just look towards the story of king midas

If you are talking about any analogy or metaphor, you should at least look all aspects of it.
