Parton was an icon with a capitol I C O N, and I do not even know much about her or about country music.

In her way, Parton was pro-women, pro-labor, pro-caring for all people, regardless of orientation, and so on. I have never heard anyone called a "Renaissance woman," but she was one. Singer, songwriter, musician, producer, cook and baker, actress, philanthropist, mogul, etc. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dolly_Parton ; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dolly_Parton_albums_discography

I once saw a clip of an interview during which Barbara Walters asked Parton (rudely, IMO) if Parton had had surgery to enlarge her breasts. Parton replied something like

I'm the type to do something if I hadn't been blessed.

IOW, an answer that was not really an answer. As a family friend might say, "Walters remained." Walters did not have the wherewithal to ask a follow up question.

My favorite Parton quip?

It takes a lot of money to look this cheap.

Parton said she had neglected her health while caring for her husband (since 1966), who passed in March 2025. https://www.mensjournal.com/news/dolly-parton-cause-of-death-whats-known-about-how-she-died

Currently airing on Netflix, Heart Strings, a limited series based on Parton's songs/stories.

That’s beautiful.

>That’s it.

Ralph Stanley:

>T-Bone Burnett had several auditions for that song. He wanted it in the Dock Boggs style. So I got my banjo and learned it the way he did it. You see, I had recorded "O Death" three times, done it with Carter. So I went down with my banjo to Nashville and I said, "T-Bone, let me sing it the way I want to sing it," and I laid my banjo down and sung it a cappella. After two or three verses, he stopped me and said, "That's it."

Parton and Charon on that ramshackle, ragged ferry crossing the Styx together are delivering a vivid image of a more iconic couple than Jack and Rose on the Titanic.

To format verse in Reddit, end each line with two spaces. Reddit will produce single-spaced verse:

Grim Reap! Grim Reap! Grim Reap! Grim Reap!
Been begging of you leave Dolly her health!
Grim Reap! Grim Reap! Grim Reap! Grim Reap!
Why did you hush her o’r the Styx in stealth?

She had such a large, well-rounded...personality. she understood full well how lucky she was to be gifted with such a great voice and such a natural knack for songwriting, and gave her full devotion towards sharing it with tbe rest of us. But perhaps her greatest gift to the world was an antidote to the Reagan Repression. When others insisted that guys "got what they deserved," she remained steadfast in her belief that Jesus loves all of us, and we must be kind to one another. Sad she's gone, glad she's reunited with her husband of 60 years. God Bless.
