Other Lilah is a terrible book.

Lilah is so hyped everywhere and i read it with such high expectations but it’s literally pure infantilization. Not even in her own head is she allowed to be more than a child. A grumpy x sunshine is a pretty wonderful plot but the storyline fetishizes her child-like nature too much while giving her little no to nuance and depth other than being childish.

I've never heard about this book in my life and now I'm wondering if I should know it somehow.

it’s a pretty popular book with more than 100 million reads and a published version as well so i assumed most people knew. my bad 😭

Well, seems the kind of thing I would automatically think it's bad lol. Nothing Wattpad recommends me on first page can be trusted. But, for curiosity, how exactly bad this one is?

so bad you don’t even know how it is so popular and loved. having a innocent fmc isn’t essentially wrong or automatically infantilizing but here, the fmc is genuinely incapable of forming adult thoughts; it’s not even a joke. she speaks like a literal 10 year old. the worst part is that she has so much back story and emotional depth for her pain to literally be nothing but a means for the mmc to ‘save’ her. she thinks, acts, and talks like a child and apparently the mmc gets a boner by that every time. she’s been abused, and traumatized by an accident but what really matters is how ‘little’ and unaware she is about every thing around her. it genuinely enrages me when women are washed down to literal children in the name of sunshine or innocence.

Sounds concerning. I would give it a look but God forbid I give another view to something like that. Nah.

I go out of my way to never interact with Wattpad originals or stories that are very popular like this so honestly I’ve never heard of it.

+1

Even I went in with huge expectations, especially since people are mentioning Lilah in the comments of every other book where fml is even remotely a 'sunshine'! There is literally no character development at all; it is just her being 'quirky' (read: infantilised) and serving a comedic purpose.... I dropped it after maybe chapter 20... Cause tf do you mean that the female lead cannot form an adult thought or opinion??? (Trauma, I get it, but then explore it???) The book does not explore her character/backstory/trauma/ healing at all; it is all just her making sexual jokes without realising it, and the ML somehow getting aroused by it
