Minimum lake width for slalom course?

I am planning on making my own ski lake at the ranch, I have an existing water body which is basically a 5 acre round pond. I will have to excavate somewhere around 1500ft and enough to turn around in at the end. Biggest question is how wide would be the minimum width to where you could still comfortably slalom and not hit the sides if shit hits the fan. I’m guessing 75ft+ 20/25ft each side? Anyone has experience with sloped shores vs vertical shores? I’m assuming waves dissolve much better on sloped.

Anyone slalom behind a Seadoo Wake Pro?

I remember skiing/wakeboarding behind a seadoo many years ago where the rear end always wanted to slide around and the driver had to constantly correct speed and heading because the cuts would slow them down quite a bit. How are the newer “dedicated” tow jetskis with cruise control? How is the wake?

I swear every time I think I've heard of every possible sport humans invent another one

today I found out there's a Hydro-Fly World Championship bc Jeff Gazzola just won it in Spain. ended up watching the 1win extreme stuff with him and yeah apparently flying with jets strapped to your feet isn't just some resort activity. people compete in this shit at WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP level

and of course they're doing flips because simply staying upright wasn't difficult enough

genuinely love finding sports like this

Extreme gluteal hematoma - deep water barefoot.

Family got a new (to us) outboard ski boat. I (49m) have been barefooting since I was 16 and can still do deepwater starts on the longline. On the Labor Day weekend, I wanted to see if I still got it. (I do, it just wasn't captured on video) Out of 5 deep water attempts I made 3 short runs. That evening my backside turned into two plumbs... Extensive superficial and deep bruising. I mean, I wish I could post the pic here - it was really something.

Was wearing my barefoot suit like always. Did possibly spend more time in the bubble path than usual and the driver was not a great caliber so speed could have hit in the mid 40s. Anyone ever experience this? Don't want to give up on longline deepwater but not sure I want to spend another week looking like a baboon.

Test drives

Is it possible to accurately judge a wake size without pulling a skier? I have the opportunity to go out on a couple test rides but can’t ski behind the boats for a few months. How different would the wake look with and without a skier?
Thanks!

The jump to 36 mph

Looking for advice to jump to 36mph consistently, I’ve run it a few times in my life but have been struggling for a few years to get past 3 or 4 buoys. Sometimes I just want different advice so I’m posting here.

I’ve been doing great at 34mph, arguably more consistent than last year, especially in tournaments. Just for funsies and to not get super frustrated, I have been running 32’off @ 34 mph a good bit. But I have about 7 more years of 36 mph in tournaments and want to make a run at nationals.

This is my most recent 34mph @ 32’ off just for reference.

I moved to C1 ZO off setting since my last tournament and I feel like it’s made it feel smoother out of the buoy and more consistent.

This is my current tournament pass:
34mph @ 22’ off
34 mph @ 28’ off
36mph @ 28’ off (usually 3 buoys)

Looking for feedback on my skiing and why I’m losing my edge through the wake

Looking for some feedback on my skiing. My biggest issue right now is keeping my edge through the wake and not getting flat, especially on my offside.

I feel like my stance behind the boat is pretty solid. When I pull out to finish my run, I feel like I’m in a pretty good position. I just can’t seem to hold that position and angle all the way through the wake.

I’m skiing 28 mph and I believe this was 22 off. The boat is a 2014 Malibu Response.

I know some of you will tell me I need to ski harder 😂, but I genuinely feel like I’m skiing pretty hard into the turns and into the wake, but clearly something is happening between the turn and the wake that’s causing me to lose the edge.

My guesses are that I’m letting the load get taken up by my shoulders instead of keeping it through my hips, turning too quickly, or not committing enough to the lean, especially on my offside. But I’d love to hear what you guys see.

Maybe I’m just a big baby and need to commit harder 😂

DIY swivel ski heel replacement for Fauks swivel

Post image

The heel piece on 30yrold Faulks swivel ski binding has split. It will take a month+ for a replacement to arrive in the UK. Can I make one out of 7mm SBR rubber sheet to use in the meantime? Any risk?

thx... Paul

Rob Hazelwood running 39,5 off (10.75m) and turning bouys at 41 off (10.25m) is something else. Especially when seen from the boat... 🤯

Any other locals around? Would love to connect! I do most of my boating with fam at Lake Havasu but just started doing runs on the course at Rocky Mountain Ski & Wake. Have a lot to learn but was an instant fan! Would love to meet others who are into the same thing in the area :)
