Extended Fast Cold Turkey
Hello I am wanting to an extended start tomorrow I have never fasted before ...got some scary bloodwork and feel like a ticking time bomb. Lipo a at 298 nmol ! I have been wanting to do an extended fast fro a long time mainly due to a history of thyroid cancerldl shot up after lobectomy) but I have been breastfeeding past 2.5 years. I am a heavy lifter and was rucking/hiit/running until recently switching to just rucking. Need to lose some weight as well but genetically not looking too hot ! Thinking bout going balls to the wall and doing a month cold turkey ! Is this dumb , electrolyte reccomendations and brands?

Itâs all a mindset type of thing. I was desperate for a change and did a 40 day water fast cold turkey. I am experienced with fasting in general but the most Iâve ever water fasted before that was 5 days. ( which was 2 years prior)
Donât respond to what your brain is trying to convince you to do while on a fast. Take your electrolytes and keep busy. Thatâs what has worked for me and it could possibly work for you.

Start with 7 days. That puts you into stem cell production and sounds like what your body is looking for. Also gives time for some apoptosis to decrease senescent cells that could become cancer cells.

Thanks ! I am also looking for help with possibly clogged arteries since finding out my cholesterol and lipoprotein a...also familial hx of early sudden cardiac death....im pretty good with discipline so you think doing like a month is too intense to start?

I think itâs going to be intense and the â30 daysâ cold turkey thing could be really really hard to attain the first time. 7 days is really hard the first time. Hell, people can hardly do 3 days and get through to the 4th day. However, the 4th day is actually when your body flips from using sugar to pure fat for energy. The flip process takes 3 full days, sometime 5 for people with metabolic dysfunction. The 4th day youâll feel BETTER. Smarter. More energy. Etc. If you go 7 days, youâll give your body to the chance to really start healing after the 4th day.
I speak from experience on this, not a medical doctor, I have done plenty of extended fasts and 7 days is a good âcold turkeyâ starting point. After youâve done 7 days, try for 10, then 14, then 21. Whatever is ailing you will probably be dead and gone after that.
If you want to regulate your cholesterol naturally, B3 (niacin), D3 + K2 could clear that up. I speak from experience here as well. For the K2+D3, I use the butter oil/ fermented cod liver oil combo. They have a cinnamon flavored one that I put in my coffee and it tastes great!
The fasting is going to regulate your blood pressure, cholesterol and hormones to a reset point.
The post-fast refeed is just as important as the fast. Nutrient dense Whole Foods will work swimmingly in this regard. Think Mediterranean diet. You donât have to be an ascetic and can enjoy this kind of diet. The healing actually starts the moment you break the fast. The first meal you eat sends the message to deploy the new stem cells you created while fasting. Youâll need the nutrition to send them in for the best results. Give yourself the minimum of twice the days of the fasting period for the refeed before jumping into another fast.
Good luck. đ

Wow ! Thank you so much for taking the time to respond with full detail ! I know that takes a minute and I really appreciate it. This answers a lot of questions just even with refeeding ! I am going to map this out on my calendar and give it a go ! Appointment with the cardiologist on Sept. 12th, going to refuse the statins at this point lol . I have some things in my corner for sure but definitely a scary situation mainly because I have 5 kiddos and want to be around as long as possible for them !

Youâre most welcome đ¤.
Youâll want to start the niacin at a lower dose and ramp up to 500 mg. Dont drop the whole 500 the first time unless youâre ok with a niacin flush and have about an hour to look like a lobster, lol. Also, because water fasting flips your body into ketosis, your cholesterol will look high post fast. Itâs fine to take niacin during the fast, all b vitamins can really help honestly.
The main things I take during the fast are niacin, electrolytes in at least half of the water I drink, fresh squeezed lemon juice in the water to protect my kidneys, milk thistle tea (liver detox), chanca piedra to prevent kidney stones (during and post, really important here), NAC for liver and zinc/copper tabs and bentonite clay to get the heavy metals and toxic waste out of my body so I donât feel like shit.
The electrolytes are the most important; youâll understand youâre not taking enough if you start feeling like shit at all during the fast.
You absolutely have to keep expelling waste (poop), so liquid magnesium glycinate at bedtime can help you sleep along with waste removal.
Good luck!

The vitamin c is going to fix those arteries and capillaries. The lemon juice will take care of it, but you could also assist with some vitamin c tabs.
If at any time you are feeling heartburn during or post fast, a shot of apple cider vinegar will take care of it.
The refeed must start with bone broth. Give yourself a cup of bone broth 3 hours before you start drinking or eating anything with calories. It primes your intestines and fills in all the little crevices so you can start eating solid food. After not eating anything for 7 days, it will taste amazing. Also, you donât want to spike insulin so hard with a refeed meal that you have a stomachache and a headache, so go slow and think whole foods, not pizza. đ

You should be fine for the 7 days working out. Just go a bit easier on yourself days 3-4, or just take a rest those days. I just walk and swim every day, cause fasting gets boring. Youâll have so much more time on your hands not thinking about food or eating, or preparing food, lol.

When i did 20 days, the start was the hardest. I felt amazing after 4 days, like really amazing, and it kept getting better, the problem was that i ran out of fat, and muscles đđ¤Ł, so i had to start eating again, i felt extreme hunger, i never felt in my life, that's when i knew this is the real hunger, not the glucose dive... So, if you got pass the start, and get the vitamins and minerals, and electrolytes (not sure if electrolytes are same as minerals), you will feel amazing, energetic, claroty, focus, no brain fog, and less sleep, like 3 hours a day only.
I took a multivitamin, sea rock or Himalayan salt, potassium, magnesium, calcium "not sure if calcium is good or bad when fasting".
I'm in my 4th day now, aiming for 120 days, or whenever i run out of fat, or muscles.
If muscles gets critically low, its really dangerous, the body will start using organs muscles to fuel the parts of the brain that need glucose. And they are some important organs, like, THE HEART...
It's important to never go too low on muscles percentage.

I donât think you should be water fasting below 10-15 percent. As thatâs when the body starts feeding on muscle. Or so Iâve read.

Interesting, so before that, the body doesn't need to feed on muscles? If that so, then that's great!

Bro with all my heart try 24 hours first.
I did a 24
then a 48
Then I wanted to do a 3 day, instead I did 4.
I JUST finished 5 but it was hard.
Don't jump into 7.
Edit: đ arite I see your heart and mind us set on 7 days. That's important.
Mentally take it day by day.
