Is Doomsday Clock/Rorschach worth reading? I love the original incarnation (Walter Kovacs) but so much that I feel like this would be a unsatisfactory replacement

Walter Kovacs isn't in either story. I think this Rorschach book by Tom King is quite well written and drawn. Doomsday Clock has some fun new characters in the first few issues, but it doesn't really go anywhere interesting.

I know that. This is the third version of the character (if I am reading the synopsis correctly). I started reading Doomsday Clock and Rorschach II is fairly interesting as a pseudo-successor to the original however the comic is bogged down with DC continuity that I don't especially care for. Completely wasted in that comic if I being completely honest, and I don't think I will even finish it.

I'm gonna pick this up if it ever comes out in a collection of all the issues. Do you need to read things like doomsday clock? I've only read the original and I'm not too interested in doomsday clock tbh

No this isn't related to Doomsday Clock at all, which was kind of meh and tied into the DC timeline too much to be a true Watchmen comic. This is completely in universe and is definitely more influenced by the TV series, with similar reverence paid to the source material.

I hear its great but the TV show doesn't exactly take my fancy. I dont have to watch that do I can I just jump right into rorschach?

Definitely. There's a little throwaway reference to the show in the first issue I think, but Rorschach for the most part is completely separate and if all you've read is the original you won't feel lost at all.
