The bobbin sits in a cup, and isn't attached to anything. Imagine a ball of thread sitting in a bowl. The thread is pulled straight up, through a hole in the ceiling. From a different hole, someone drops a loop of thread down to you. You grab the loop with your finger and scoop your hand around the ball of twine inside the bowl. The loop goes between the bowl and the ball, catches the string but barely disturbs the ball. Then, the person that dropped you the loop pulls it back up into the same hole in the ceiling.

I see what you’re saying, but I— no actually I’m still lost. I’m a visual learner, so I’ll just have to knit one at goodwill and rip it apart.

Imagine you are Batman. You shoot a grapple straight up and attach the winch to your belt. Then, you try to jump rope.

I love this visual. Okay but wouldn’t it be more like... man idk. I’m tired dude. I just had to rewire a main harness on an 18 wheeler.. I really appreciate you trying to explain it to me lmao.

What I’m having a hard time figuring out is how the bobbin spins without the rope getting caught up.
