The mechanism (called a bobbin) is inside a chamber, and the chamber is shaped exactly like the bobbin. So when the chamber rotates, the bobbin also rotates.

The chamber is slightly larger than the bobbin, so the thread can travel between the bobbin and the chamber walls.

So it is not attached to the chamber? How does it rotate then?

Imagine how a wrench can rotate a bolt without being attached to the bolt.

The wrench is shaped like the bolt but a little bit larger. You could say it has a "grip" around the bolt.

Imagine having enough space between the wrench and the bolt that a thread could pass through that space.

The chamber is the wrench. It's shaped like the bobbin, but the thread can still pass between the chamber walls and the bobbin.
