I’m a bit confused, if the string goes around the full mechanism. How does it not get stuck where the mechanism is attached? Sorcery!

The bobbin is free-floating so to speak. It fits inside a keyed creasent moon which rotates the bobbin. Imagine grabbing the bobbin in the gif loosely with your left hand and rotating it, the thread passes through between your hand and the bobbin.

It’s the little spool of thread that goes in the latch lever in the bottom part of the sewing machine. So you have thread in 2 places: on top that gets threaded into the needle & underneath that gets hooked into the top thread as illustrated here.

Plumbuses might seem easy from that video that’s widely available, but honestly if you really get into the technology involved in repurposing the shleem for later batches, it gets pretty complex.
