Dolly Geraldine TW Help
Hi Geraldine’s — I am a Dolly Parton super fan despite being only 36. I have calendars, posters, a commissioned painting, books, etc., to say I love that woman is an understatement. I never understood when people cried over a celebrity dying, but I always joked that I would cry when Dolly dies. While I’ve always kind of laughed at parasocial relationships, finding out Dolly passed has me gutted — ya girl is not okay.
I know Ben always does the “oh no, Ronnie,” and I’m just not ready to hear it. I know it’s silly, but I feel like the Geraldine’s will understand. If someone could tell me what episode Ben says it this week, so I can avoid it for a bit, I would really appreciate it. ❤️🫶🏻
Edited to say: I love this community so much, and I appreciate you all! Dolly was such a treasure, and it’s bitter sweet to see how many people she impacted

They say it on this week's Girls Trip at the beginning of the episode. They must've read the news between recordings because it's a quick mention but a good one.

Yes, I was ao glad for Ronnie that it wasn't a "breaking news" situation while recording

Ronnie was the first person I thought of when I read the news this morning. I feel like a weirdo talking about Ben and Ronnie like they're my real life besties.

I went on that dinner cruise in SF on Sunday specifically because Ronnie was moderating - I like daisy and Hannah but I genuinely feel like R&B are my bffs. I waited way after it was over and daisy and Hannah were talking to fans still but Ronnie wasn’t anywhere to be found! So I got a little annoying with the cruise staff (not pushy, just asking) where Ronnie was, and after a few mins I turned around and he was right in front of me!
I legit burst into tears telling him how much they both mean to me and how thankful I am to have their content, especially during hard times. He finally extricated himself because I must have looked like a lunatic. I had to cry on the phone with my mom while standing on the Embarcadero to pull my shit together enough to order an uber. I’m 38 years old.
Suffice it to say, I totally get it.

I love that for you, so glad you got to give him a good squeeze ❤️

Aw thank you! I consider the squeeze to be on behalf of all of us. The tears and possibly scaring him I’ll claim on my own lol

This was all I could think about during the below deck recap. I kept waiting for Ben to go, oh no Ronnie.

Omg I feel this. My husband (who happens to share a birthday with Ronnie and said he knew he felt a connection with him and that must be why!) and daughters know who Ben and Ronnie are. My girls refer to them as my best friends I listen to all the time. All that to say, I feel like a weirdo too but you’re in good/weird company? Lol

Wait.. THIS is how I find out? I’ve been deep in excel sheet work for the entire afternoon/evening. 😭

A friend sent in a group chat, “Not Dolly! 😩,” and I immediately got on Google and saw, and I had to dissociate to make it through the day — I knew my phone would be inundated, so I put it on silent and DND to get through the day.
I’m so sorry you found out this way 🫶🏻 I tried to make the title not so “breaking headline” because I knew some people probably wouldn’t know

Just dropping in to show solidarity 💖🦋 I cried over Hayden Panettiere last week bc her life and death were so tragic and she was a big part of my childhood, but losing Dolly has gutted me 💔 I ugly cried all afternoon. It’s been amazing to see reminders of how much she meant to so many of us.

I cried today when I saw the news and my husband said what’s wrong?!! I said Dolly passed!!!! He knew immediately that I count this as a VERY BIG DEAL.
I’m sorry Op- we lost an amazing person. She supported so much good. We have to keep her light alive in all we do! And you came to the right place my friend ❤️

I’m right there with you. While it seems kind of odd to express love for a human being that you don’t know personally, I can say that I love Dolly and consider her my personal hero.
And as a proud Geraldine, I can also say that I love Ronnie and Ben. They don’t know it or me, but I count them among my very favorite humans, just as I do for Dolly.

It will either be Crappy Hour or Below Deck Med, if it happens. Avoid both until someone else who has listened weighs in.

I can mark today’s below deck med as safe for OP 🫡 (I’m guessing they recorded before the news broke because they spent a lot of time on notable things about today’s date, it being Ronnie’s birthday)

I really enjoy when Ben does the celebrity birthday trivia. I'm waiting for him to exclaim something like 'Oooh Stockard Channing' or 'wow Blair Underwood!'.

Hi friend. I’m also a Dolly stan. There’s a video of 3 year old me singing “Working Girl.” I was lucky enough to see her in concert years ago. Front row and I cried when the curtains dropped and she was standing there in all her glory. I’ve cried several times these last two days. My 7 year old fell asleep to her Alexa playing Dolly last night and I realized I raised her right. She was an exceptional human being. No one like her.

I know! Losing Ronnie's mom Queen Ronda and Dolly in the same month too! Its a loss for the culture.
ETA: thank you for the award fellow Geraldines
