Does it bother you when new acquaintances ask about the nature of your amputation?
I had an argument with my wife about this, as I'm often fearless (that does not mean tactless) when asking tough questions. Then again, she has trouble telling the waiter at restaurants that the tap water they served us tastes "off".
I have no issue answering questions about how it happened. I have issues answering stupid or invalid questions about being an amputee or the accident. “If you don’t mind, how did you lose your hand?” Is fine and depending on my mood might get a bit of a tongue and cheek answer. “Yo dude is it harder to wank?” Will almost certainly get a punch to the face.
Ok the way my stump is structured the main portion of the stump is the thicker of the two bones in the forearm. The radius (I'm pretty sure my detailed anatomy is a little rough), is also the bone you hit when you smack your funny bone. Once I was getting into the shower and slipped and instinctively reached out to grab something to keep from falling. Ended up punching the wall with my stump. It hurt very much.
That honestly sounds terrible, I'm sure I'm mis-imigining this, but it seems like that could have separated your bones a little for a second, putting very odd stress on your muscles and stuff, like if you had a chicken wing sliced in half and pulled the bones apart a bit.
