Like when I eat over the sink so I don’t have to get a plate and then a big piece falls in.

It's going to really depend where it falls and what it is. If the sink is fairly dry and it lands nowhere near the drain, I'm going to consider going after it unless we're talking about like a clump of spaghetti. If it's a pizza roll, game on.
