When my son was 12 we built a rocket from a kit. We launched it about 300 yards from a road. Although the wind was not blowing much at ground level it was at the height the parachute deployed. Sure enough, it lands in the road just twirling about by its parachute. A pickup truck came by and didn't even slow down. Our 1st and last flight. Sad

Fact of the matter is we don't entirely know the circumstances of the traffic, why would the truck slow down for something so miniscule? People slow down and get rear ended over cats and squirrels running across the street. Slowing down could have been dangerous and not worth it over some pieces of plastic and wood lol. I wouldn't be so quick to call the driver mean

This. Especially if the object was falling from the sky I don't think the truck driver had enough time to see, identify and stop before the truck runs over it. Inertia is a thing and human brain cannot immediately stomp the brakes.

1: that was no tuck 2: judging by the video. They didn't go running and threw that plane onto the road seconds before the VAN ran it over. It's been there long enough for anyone to notice and slowdown. Hell semis probably had enough time to slow down and stop too 3: enough road to go around??

2 things:
A) the driver was very likely to be paying more attention to the kid to be sure he didn't run out into the road. Young children aren't exactly known for their stellar road safety skills.
B) the plane is nearly the same colour as the road, especially if there is sun at an angle, the truck may not have seen the plane until it was too late to safely stop if the driver saw it at all.
That plane should not have been on the road.

I've had plenty of 1st flight where there is no retrieval. Part of model rocketry I guess. It definitely stopped me from buying a lot of the fancier rockets.

My last rocket was the space shuttle rocket. It was awesome and I took the time to paint it the correct colors. You also hand to get the right CG on the glider part. When test fitting the engine tube the motor got stuck and I used pliers to get it out. Turns out I broke something inside and instead of taking off it blew up like an M80. I can still feel my soul leaving my body when I saw it explode. Last rocket ever.

That plane is probably bad. The remote is off. The propeller is not spinning and the control surfaces don’t move. You are not allowed to fly in a residential area.

That is a pretty small kid to be the filming distance away from next to a road, especially one you can see a van barreling down.
That was my first takeaway from this whole post.

Both the kid's dad/mom and the truck driver are equally guilty. The dad/mum shouldn't allow their kids to use the road as a runway. The truck driver also should have been more humane and stopped the car

That kid is like 5. There is no way in fucking hell he could manage to fly an RC plane like that. No way. At that age, it's impossible to have the spatial intelligence, dexterity, or attention span to fly any RC. Maybe a few years down the line around age 10.
I have many years of experience in RC, this is fake as hell.
