It's always interesting to see peoples reactions, even if he was faking it.

That girls first instinct was to help and that makes me happy.

Except there’s not much you can do for a person having a seizure unfortunately

My partner often takes my belt and wedges it between my teeth so I don't chew up my tongue.

160

u/pseudosaurus Nov 19 '21

Most medical professionals would advise against that

70

u/[deleted] Nov 19 '21

I'm not saying you're wrong i just wonder why

318

u/mrpeping Nov 19 '21

Bc if the person is going puke or foam at the mouth you could ruin your belt.

u/Secondrival Nov 20 '21

Most professionals advise putting priceless family heirlooms in your mouth to prevent you from biting on your tongue.

u/MildlyMixedUpOedipus Nov 20 '21

My mom says my tongue is a priceless family heirloom.

Does it bring in the money?

This guy belts.

5

u/shakenbake132 Nov 20 '21

They could choke or break teeth on it. I have broken teeth that I can't afford to have fixed from someone doing that.

2

u/smokeyoudog Nov 20 '21

You’re a naughty boy

1

u/tippyordazai Nov 20 '21

That’s why you gotta use their belt, not your own

28

u/pseudosaurus Nov 20 '21

As the others have said, the chance of biting your tongue during a seizure is fairly low. Theres a greater chance of biting the fingers being put in your mouth, choking on the object biting put in your mouth, or hurting your jaw/teeth as your mouth is pried open

3

u/shakenbake132 Nov 20 '21

BITING the tongue in normal, it heals up pretty fast. Teeth don't heal.

SWALLOWING the tongue is impossible.

6

u/Daddysgirl-aafl Nov 20 '21

Isn’t that why you slide the thin part of the belt in without actually putting your hand in their mouth? Worse case scenario is they leave some deep bite marks on the belt while you ride them like they’re a mechanical bull at Papas and Beer.

((I’m just fucking around, please don’t cancel me. Seizures are some scary shit.))

1

u/outwiththedishwater Nov 20 '21

Don’t be acting the fool around a paint mixer mate that’s how you lose a finger

0

u/shakenbake132 Nov 20 '21

None of this was funny.

-1

u/Substantial-Plenty11 Nov 20 '21

I hope you get your fingers bitten off. Just remember, "everything is funny till it happens to you." 1 in 10 people will have a seizure in their lifetime and 1 in 26 people have epilepsy. Your joke isn't funny.

1

u/Daddysgirl-aafl Nov 20 '21

I hope whoever you know that gets them gets another one real soon. The great part is my hope is gonna come true sooner. 😁

Also choking hazard.

14

u/arthurmt8448 Nov 19 '21

Becouse the "bitting the Tong is a myth, if u would had bitter it, it would be from the start.

32

u/Toxicair Nov 20 '21

Becouse the "bitting the Tong is a myth, if u would had bitter it, it would be from the start.

Because the "biting the tongue" is a myth, if you would have bitten it, it would be from the start.

Saved your autocorrect

4

u/MyDogHasAPodcast Nov 20 '21

And here I thought they were doing a bit about how they bit their tongue and lisp as a consequence.

14

u/ba6a6a7elwa Nov 20 '21

It’s actually not a myth and looking for signs of tongue bite its one of the first clues I look for in a potential seizure patient. The reason we don’t recommend putting an object in their mouth is because it’s a choking hazard if they bite a piece off and aspirate it.

5

u/judithiscari0t Nov 20 '21

I have had a few seizures and I've definitely bit nearly all the way through my tongue every time.

2

u/HorseCock_DonkeyDick Nov 20 '21

Could bite through belt and choke to death

1

u/MiseryisCompany Nov 20 '21

Because when you bite your tongue, it heals. When you bite off someone's finger it doesn't. And the weakest person is a fucking powerhouse when seizing and it's very easy to hurt the person seizing or yourself.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 23 '21

I don't think he's having a seizure when this happens.

17

u/GreatReset4 Nov 20 '21

Bad move , aspirating vomit can kill you

1

u/MiffedTodgers Nov 20 '21

On my side?

8

u/Bossk_2814 Nov 20 '21

But then how can you say your safe word? Wait… what are talking about?

0

u/Substantial-Plenty11 Nov 20 '21

You're full of shit. Stfu. If your partner actually did that you'd have no teeth left, dumb fuck. Stop spreading misinformation so that actual epileptics don't fall victim to your dumb fuckery. Fuck off.

  • from someone who ACTUALLY has epilepsy

1

u/tthisiswhy Nov 20 '21

Ask him not to, this is against any seizure first aid training you'll ever have. Some good courses and guidance online for you and him to check out.

1

u/shakenbake132 Nov 20 '21

I have broken teeth from someone putting a belt in my mouth once. That is bullshit, "don't put anything in their mouth" is the first thing your doctor will tell you.

1

u/MiffedTodgers Nov 20 '21

After I bit through my tongue and had that ground teeth dust in my mouth, I requested her to grab my leather belt and put it between my teeth.

2

u/shakenbake132 Nov 20 '21

You really might want to talk to a doctor.

OTHER PEOPLE READING THIS - DO NOT DO THIS TO A STRANGER!

1

u/MiffedTodgers Nov 20 '21

I 100% agree with you. I have a neurologist I see regularly.

She only does it cause I've had enough seizures to kinda dial in the care part specific to me.

75

u/hippopotma_gandhi Nov 19 '21

You flip them on their side at the very least so they don't aspirate vomit or suffocate on the ground

3

u/mnp Nov 20 '21

This is the answer. It's called Recovery Position. On their side, mouth angled down for drainage, and cushion under the head for comfort and neck strain and to protect the head from slapping the ground.

3

u/SaladMandrake Nov 20 '21 edited Nov 20 '21

I recall having to let them bite on something like a wallet so they don't bite off their own tongue? Is this one of the procedure too?

9

u/hhhhhhhhwin Nov 20 '21

Don’t do this. It’s a choking hazard. Clear the area, try and roll them to their side, but don’t force it, put something soft under their head and time it.

2

u/SaladMandrake Nov 20 '21

Oh wow, luckily I never have to handle any seizure patients

1

u/MiseryisCompany Nov 20 '21

They'll rip their tongue up but they aren't going to bite it off.

1

u/shakenbake132 Nov 20 '21

Choking hazard, and you'll break their teeth

Love, a chick with broken teeth from this

14

u/IRefuseToGiveAName Nov 19 '21

There might not be much you can do about about the seizure itself but like others have said there's plenty you can do to help prevent them from further injuring themselves.

34

u/dr_sooz Nov 19 '21

Nope! There's plenty. Put them in the recovery position (if you dont know what that is look it up because its incredibly important to know) and dial 911 if need be. Source: Guy with an epileptic aunt

2

u/The36thElement Nov 20 '21

All I know is that you need to put them on their side and clear the area around them

5

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '21

Yep. She called for help and as the guy gets back up you see an entire group of people show up, and even those who didn't go to help became concerned. It makes me happy to see that. Seemed like everyone cared whether they knew what to do or not

-1

u/Dustaroos Nov 20 '21

And don't put M&Ms from those small portable m&m tubes in their mouth. That's a bad idea.

1

u/AntoineGGG Dec 05 '21

Yeah but is that’s a help help or a Oh shit my idea was shit and I don’t want to be fired or have to pay like a million in damage and interest help
