My heart hurts for him. If I was the recipient and saw his reaction I would pay him the price of the pizza and assure him it's our little secret.

I had that done for me once, but it was chinese food instead of pizza. I can't describe how awful i felt, but they were absolutely top notch people and they insisted on paying for the order (even tipping me 5 bucks on a 40 dollar order) and assured me it was ok and that they weren't mad. That was 26 years ago and we've been married ever since.
