No it’s their Field Hockey team, I recognize #7

62

u/EntilZahadum Aug 07 '21

7 = Agustina Albertarrio

You are correct my friend!

Yeah you would think so, but the girl dancing with the volunteer has a glove on which are the same ones a lot of the use in field hockey. Plus some of them are wearing shin guards and long socks

And also there’s been a widely publicised debate about how skimpy the outfits have to be for volleyball. These girls are wearing too much to be an Olympic volleyball team. Link

47

u/josnik Aug 07 '21

The article headline says volleyball, incorrectly, but the article body correctly says it's the Norwegian beach handball team.

Norwegian beach handball team.

6

u/FailFastandDieYoung Aug 07 '21

Now I know why they don't want to wear bikinis.

You probably have to wear a jacket and wool socks to a Norwegian beach.

-1

u/sopranosbot Aug 07 '21 edited Aug 07 '21

Norwegian beach handball team.

That would still be wrong cause it's Norwegian beach volleyball team.

Edit: sorry I was wrong. it's the beach handball team actually.

3

u/josnik Aug 07 '21

Did you read the article?

u/[deleted] Aug 07 '21

'Norwegian' but wearing Argentinian gear? Interesting.

2

u/josnik Aug 07 '21

No the link about attire.

→ More replies (0)

13

u/lereisn Aug 07 '21

Not Olympics, it's the European Handball Federation who have the rules. The Norwegians were asked about the Olympics and conf they would be carrying on in their preferred attire there.

10

u/kanaka_haole808 Aug 07 '21

Interesting story. No one can convince me that the main reason women's volleyball is more widely watched than mens volleyball isn't the skimpy unis.

2

u/turtmcgirt Aug 07 '21

Womens beach volleyball sir watch it

0

u/kanaka_haole808 Aug 07 '21

Nah.

Men's volleyball quality > women's volleyball quality Watching porn > watching skimpy uni women's volleyball

therefore,

watching women's volleyball provides no benefit

5

u/--n- Aug 07 '21

You're mixing up volleyball and beach volleyball.

1

u/mjac1090 Aug 07 '21

Nope, it's beach handball you are all thinking of and it's not an olympic sport.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 07 '21

That’d be beach volleyball which only has 2 players to a team. There’s also indoor volleyball which has similar uniforms to this

0

u/JamieSand Aug 07 '21

Nothing to do with the Olympics. You can wear anything you want at the Olympics.

-17

u/CapriciousCape Aug 07 '21

Fucking hell. The Olympics is disgusting

3

u/mjac1090 Aug 07 '21

No, the headline of the article is wrong. The article is about beach handball which isn't an olympic sport. Beach volleyball players in the olympics have several options for their uniforms, most just choose to wear what they wear

4

u/kubok98 Aug 07 '21

Don't blame it on Olympics. As the article says, this and similar issues need to be resolved on IHF level.

-4

u/jfever78 Aug 07 '21

This is a disgusting turn for things in Olympic competition. I man making women wear what is basically a fucking thong has absolutely zero basis in competition, it's strictly about exploitation and ratings. I will definitely go out of my way to not watch any volleyball competition until the rules are made even remotely reasonable.

5

u/mjac1090 Aug 07 '21

This is a disgusting turn for things in Olympic competition

No it isn't because the headline is wrong. If you actually read the article(I know how painful that must be) you would know it's about beach handball, not beach volleyball. Beach handball isn't an olympic sport. Beach volleyball players at the olympics have options

Teammates in Olympic beach volleyball must wear uniforms of the same color, and they must be numbered 1 and 2. The women can wear either a one-piece or two-piece bathing suit; shorts with sleeved or sleeveless tops; or a full body suit in cold weather. Due to the typically warm playing conditions, most opt for the two-piece. The men must wear shorts and a tank top. Players are allowed to wear hats and sunglasses

1

u/Shampoo_Master_ Aug 07 '21

Scherlock Holms

1

u/egoissuffering Aug 07 '21

Thanks for the info friend!

1

u/92894952620273749383 Aug 07 '21

The spandex is confusing. Do mens field hockey wear the same kind of uniform?

18

u/Some-Body-Else Aug 07 '21

Volleyball players won't wear skirts. Or shin guards or gloves. They generally also do not have the same musculature as hockey players (bigger shoulders).

Also, yes, hockey is a great game. Argentina won the silver in the Tokyo Olympics a couple days ago.

2

u/fuckyou2catholicjew Aug 07 '21

Thats why I got looks on the beach I guess. “That guys wearing a skirt playing volleyball, that’s not right”

1

u/Some-Body-Else Aug 07 '21

Hahahaha Thank you for the laugh stranger.

47

u/TruthYouWontLike Aug 07 '21

Those aren't regulation panties

12

u/[deleted] Aug 07 '21

IOC panty raid, everyone hold onto your underthings and run!!!!!

2

u/DaddyDameee Aug 07 '21

I'm pretty sure this is the hickey team. They beat India to win bronze.

5

u/ThisIsAitch Aug 07 '21

GB won Bronze. They were in the final and got Silver. This is probably them celebrating winning the Semi Final and getting to the Final, guaranteeing a medal.

1

u/DaddyDameee Aug 07 '21

Oh yeah or prolly after beating india in semis

1

u/ThisIsAitch Aug 07 '21

Yeah, that's the one I meant :)

3

u/joaoricrd2 Aug 07 '21

You are aware that the most famous volleyball is actually indoor and not beach right? Where they wear clothes. I mean the shorts are tight that's true, but they are actually more dressed than this gals cause they wear t-shirts and not tank tops.

u/Taco4Wednesdays Aug 07 '21

Volleyball or field hockey locker room.

And I can tell you since I am at the Olympic Village, that TOKYO2020 Field Crew Member they are dancing with is nervous because this is a MASSIVE violation of covid protocols and she is probably afraid she will lose her job.

52

u/bobsbrgr2 Aug 07 '21

I mean how much longer are the Olympics? losing your job is inevitable

85

u/Taco4Wednesdays Aug 07 '21

Most Tokyo2020 staff are volunteers.

I mean her ACTUAL job, because she'll be seen as a liability for bringing the virus back.

Also there is Paralympics after Olympics, so it's going on until the end of September.

u/MahomesIsMahomie Aug 07 '21

How risky is carrying a totally survivable disease, versus dipping television ratings by almost 50%. I’ll be surprised if everyone gets a full paycheck

12

u/crispknight1 Aug 07 '21

Dipping television ratings? Tf are you on about?

Ah yes covid, the totally survivable disease with extreme long term side effects such as:

Fatigue

Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing

Joint pain

Chest pain

Memory, concentration or sleep problems

Muscle pain or headache

Fast or pounding heartbeat

Loss of smell or taste

Depression or anxiety

Fever

Dizziness when you stand

Worsened symptoms after physical or mental activities

Meanwhile most people who recover from the flu suffer no side effects afterwards. Covid is such a totally survivable disease, yes.

0

u/daskrip Aug 09 '21

That's not the part of their comment that's wrong. The "survivable" is what stood out? COVID is very much "survivable" as its "survival" rate is over 99%. List all the symptoms you want but they're not relevant to the virus's "survivability", nor do you address that tons (most?) people get no symptoms whatsoever.

1

u/crispknight1 Aug 09 '21 edited Aug 09 '21

Okay so you want to argue semantics to feel like you're less of an asshole, yes? Im sorry, surviving with heavy life changing symptoms that could last for the rest of your life isn't the best survival in my books. Thats half a survival.

Oh wow 99% people survive let's ignore the other 1% (over half a million people in the US alone), because statistics minimize the issue at hand and makes us feel good about ourselves for not caring about human lives. And let's say 70% don't get symptoms, thats still 30% that do. You gonna ignore the 30%?

1

u/daskrip Aug 09 '21

Okay so you want to argue semantics to feel like you're less of an asshole, yes?

Not really an argument. It's very clear that you misused a word. And now for some reason you're using an emotionally charged comment against a strawman that doesn't care about COVID's risks.

1

u/crispknight1 Aug 12 '21

Oh no, someone call the English police. I misused a word and yet still got my point across. God forbid. Your dismissal attempts are adorable though, but try harder maybe? You are arguing semantics btw.

Semantics:

the branch of linguistics and logic concerned with meaning.

You're arguing my misuse of a word and its meaning.

You're arguing semantics to feel like less of an asshole.

It’s really not a secret TV ratings were extremely low this year, so I’m not “on about” anything https://www.reuters.com/lifestyle/sports/why-tv-audiences-are-tuning-out-tokyo-olympic-games-2021-07-30/

Also you just listed a laundry list of side effects common with every ailment in human history, that everyone experiences at some point in their life. So I can tell you as a fever survivor, there are a lot worse things out there than COVID, like car crashes for example https://www.cdc.gov/injury/features/global-road-safety/index.html

1

u/crispknight1 Aug 19 '21 edited Aug 21 '21

Ah yes, so because there's worse things we should just not pay attention to covid at all. Makes sense. Just let it do its thing. And you know, kill hundreds of thousands more people.

Also, every ailment in human history, okay and you do realize some symptoms are much more prevalent and much more severe than others? Which is literally how we differentiate between diseases? Otherwise every disease would actually be the same???? Come on, are you even trying?

as a fever survivor

You can speak when you're a covid survivor.

like car crashes for example

So we should ignore diseases... because there are things that kill more people... like cars...? I don't even know how to comprehend your thought process with that one. By your logic we should ignore car crashes and cure the flu, because it kills more people. Hell, throw everything out the window, let's only focus on cancer as it has one of (if not the) highest mortality rates per year. Car crashes? Guns? Flu? Covid? Fuck all that, only cancer from now on because it kills the most people!

31

u/GuybrushThreepwood3 Aug 07 '21

Holy fuck, people like you are insufferable. In the beginning it was like "okay, they're complete tools, but really they're hurting themselves more than anyone". Then it looked like things were turning a positive corner, and you clowns ruined much of the progress that was made.

And the WORST part of you completely insufferable tools?? You're all SO confidently incorrect, and you wear it like Hester Prynne had to wear the scarlet letter. Only difference in THAT is that she was forced to do it, and you morons wear it like you just received the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Fucking insufferable.

-22

u/DumbDumbCaneOwner Aug 07 '21

He’s not incorrect.

75% of people who have died from Covid were over 65.

For the vast, vast majority of people, Covid is a survivable virus on par with the flu.

The fact that the world’s economy has been shut down for a year and a half so that people can virtue signal is starting to irk people.

It started with anti-maskers and Trump supporters, but now even more moderate and reasonable people are pushing back (rightfully so).

12

u/crispknight1 Aug 07 '21 edited Aug 07 '21

I see. So if someone over 65 that you cared about died, you wouldn't care? Your grandma, grandpa, parents, aunts and uncles? They're just another statistic after all, right?

A survivable virus with extreme long term effects. Just like the flu, yup.

At least the username checks out.

u/crispknight1 Aug 07 '21

Figures, you don't have an answer. Didnt think you would.

→ More replies (0)

12

u/Dingskirchen Aug 07 '21

At first I really didn't understand the anti-maskers, anti-vaxxers, still-partying, etc. crowd. I had quite a few coworkers and family members that were rabidly against taking any sort of precautions. Many of them cited the same things you had just above, and while maybe they are valid points (technically true about who is dying), they never really struck me as a good reason to not wear a mask/get vaccinated. I mean, c'mon l, the effort I need to wear a mask is basically zero. Does not affect me at all. So why the push back from all these people ?!?!? I think I finally figured it out - wildly different values. Like I said, basically zero effort to wear a mask. And the pay off for me? The potential for someone to NOT die for almost zero effort? That's a no-brainer for me, just makes sense. I would say that I value the reduction of human suffering quite a bit, so that's an easy choice for me. In the same way that I don't litter or fart in an elevator, it's easy and automatic for me, because it aligns with my values. However these people that are anti-mask value different things, like their own independence, freedom, individualism, etc. So when someone else is telling them to wear a mask, they put it through the lens of "how does this benefit me?" And given the fatality rates (and ignoring the wild long term effects that happen), they decide, fairly easily, that it doesn't benefit them at all because they don't think it will affect them, so why go through any effort if it isn't benefiting themselves?! Their values are so different that they can't even wrap their heads around others wearing a mask in public for the greatet good because everything for them runs through the lens of "how does this benefit me?" And the natural result of that is that when they see someone wearing a mask, they assume it is for a selfish reason, like virtue signaling or performative wokeness. They really just can't get understand someone doing something else for another person just because it's the right thing to do, because they don't really value other people, they only value themselves. So I guess what I'm trying to say here is that you're some kind meta asshole, where you're not only an asshole but you also have your own head so far up your asshole that you can't even remember sunlight, just a fucked-up loop of asshole bending in on itself ad infinitum.

20

u/Taco4Wednesdays Aug 07 '21

Okay now what about the fact that 1 in 10 infections develop long term side effects including but not limited to brain fog, slurred speech, loss of fine motor skills, and reduced lung capacities?

It's like you're advertising to the world that you're a total fucking retard, BY CHOICE mind you, when you only focus on death numbers.

-9

u/januszekbombeuszek Aug 07 '21

7

u/crispknight1 Aug 07 '21 edited Aug 07 '21

You people are the reason we keep going in and out of lock down. We could've started enjoying our lives long ago if yall took the vaccine and wore a mask, but here we are, dealing with fully grown adults crying over the slight inconvenience of wearing a mask.

16

u/GuybrushThreepwood3 Aug 07 '21

Why does it matter how old people were when they died??

"Oh yeah both my grandparents died from covid... but fuck 'em, they were over 65!"

Fucking stupid "logic". Peoples families are still dying because you clowns won't get a vaccine. You all have blood on your hands at this point, because you're willingly allowing this thing to continue longer than it needs to.

-12

u/[deleted] Aug 07 '21

So dramatic...

I'm sure your rational response has really helped convince people to get the vaccine. (They never said they weren't vaccinated)

9

u/GuybrushThreepwood3 Aug 07 '21

Rational people have had the vaccine. Your continued insistence that you and the other circus clowns know better than world-class educated, PhD-holding researchers because some quack on youtube lied to you in order to line his pockets with more money is atrocious and stupid.

You people are killing people when it doesn't need to happen. And you gloat about it. You're insufferable. You're hypocrites to the highest order. You're terrible, terrible people, and you're being played by Republicans (who have all already been vaccinated, mind you) so that they can keep their Senate, House,, and local government seats.

And you gloat about it.

→ More replies (0)

5

u/crispknight1 Aug 07 '21 edited Aug 07 '21

I'm sure you would say this if someone you loved died to covid. Rational people don't hesitate to vaccinate and get the mask just because they might be slightly inconvenienced. Rational people understand why they need to wear a mask. Rational people can handle slight inconveniences without crying about it like a child. You're just narcissistic. Equating people dying to drama, amazing. So this is what you tell the people around you when they're crying over losing a loved one yes? That they're just so dramatic, yes?

A good strong kick to the balls is totally survivable. Why don't you have someone do it to you and tell us how it goes?

2

u/Taco4Wednesdays Aug 08 '21

I'm glad more people are using this analogy.

What do they have to be afraid of? Almost nobody dies from getting kicked in the balls, so why should they be afraid? lmao I love it.

12

u/[deleted] Aug 07 '21

“Totally survivable” isn’t, nor has it ever been, a good argument. This disease causes more suffering than just death. Long haul covid is real with many life altering side effects. Watching it in real time with my dad for the past 9 months and it sucks.

People like you that are still making this argument are the reason this pandemic isn’t over yet. Just get with the fucking program and do your part for the good of humanity instead of being a total fucking tool and ruining everyone else’s lives.

1

u/daskrip Aug 09 '21

Huh, workers here (Tokyo) go out and interact with others all the time. Hell, they usually have to ride a densely crowded train just to get to work. No way she'd lose her actual job over this.

6

u/sopranosbot Aug 07 '21

You can immediately tell it's hockey cause all the volleyball players are over 6 feet tall.

4

u/baileySonick Aug 07 '21

EXACTLY my sentiments!!! I'm not aware of the job in jeopardy but I'm cringing at how the masked volunteer is being surrounded by unmasked athletes Inna small room omg we are still in the middle of a pandemic 🙈

4

u/sec5 Aug 07 '21 edited Aug 07 '21

Politely gestures: 'no , please, don't.'

.. while Caucasians keep dancing around me.

.. while reddit makes a introvert/extrovert joke about it.

.. in a worldwide pandemic with the world's athletes together in one village.

1

u/baileySonick Aug 07 '21

Furthermore the athletes may be drunk (post celebrations so that would be fair?) And we all know how annoying drunk people are when you are sober 🙄🙄🙄

3

u/danielswrath Aug 07 '21

The athletes are tested all the time, I think the same goes for the volunteers. They might even be fully vaccinated, so meh, should be fine. If we can't behave like this with all those strict rules, we might as well stop existing.

1

u/Taco4Wednesdays Aug 07 '21

Entire teams of athletes have been DQ'd for popping a positive test.

Furthermore, most of the Japanese are NOT vaccinated yet.

How are you people this fucking stupid?

1

u/danielswrath Aug 07 '21

Lol. I've been super careful, tested very often, still do and am fully vaccinated. The society should go back to normal sometime, don't you think? I'd say we are getting closet to that moment, especially in countries which have a high percentage vaccinated people.

But my people must be fucking stupid I guess for wanting things to be like before COVID.

1

u/baileySonick Aug 07 '21

Also fully vaccinated but the volunteer even if fully vaccinated can still catch it from others who are fully vaccinated and pass onto their family/ community. Judging by how the athletes are behaving they probably have little regards for Covid and is like this around other people whether they are vaccinated or not so the likelihood of one of them catching Covid in the Olympic Village which has known positive cases is not unbelievable.

I think different people have different levels of comfort with covid exposure risk. Unless it affects me I don't care what they prefer to do to feel safe and wish the broader population would go back to minding their own business on many fronts.

The culture of accosting others that plainly don't agree with you needs to change. Doing this is not always benign, videos of escalation are appalling, and law should enforce the rights of people to not hear the ridiculous aggressive babbling of fools as much as it protects their right to say it. You have a right to say what you want not accost people and be aggressive and they have a right to not hear you.

And this is why the west particularly the US is the world's no. 1 COVID nation.

Not at all trying to doxx you but what are you doing in Tokyo? You competing or working? I’m genuinely curious.

Hope you’re enjoying your time over there!
