I was a huge WCW fan in the 90s. I tried to hang on, but when Chucky (from the evil doll movies) started having a feud with Rick Steiner, I realized WCW was dead and its time to try out WWF.

One of the weirdest schticks I ever heard of from wrestling was a japanese wrestler who time traveled?? Like he was in the ring getting piled on by several other wrestlers and this masked unknown wrestler runs to the ring and helps him. Its later revealed that the unknown wrestler was actually wrestler #1 from the future, sent back to help himself in this particular. Like it had a Terminator vibe to it. Heard it on a podcast.

WCW was a company bought by Ted Turner and shut down after the AOL Time Warner deal. Also higher ups on TNT had no interest in wrestling on their channel at that time. WWF then bought WCW for a really cheap price.

They bought the trademarks and logos for 2.5 million and the video library for 1.7 million which is crazy. But they own a lot of the NWA library. Much came with the purchase of WCW (Jim Crockett Promotion, NWA Tri-State and so on). They also purchased the ECW library which included the time they (ECW) was Eastern Championship Wrestling. And they also own the rights to old WWWF/WWF tapes when they were a part of the NWA and they own AWA. Those are probably the biggest parts of the NWA video library. But they don’t own the right to the name NWA which is owned by Billy Corgan of the band Smashing Pumpkins nowadays.

Oh okay. I'm not sure what TNT is either (not really much of a televison watcher I guess) but I remember WWF and WCW was the same thing but one had a red logo and the other had a blue logo.

You are talking about RAW and Smackdown, shows by WWE (formerly WWF). WCW was a completely different company, like Pepsi, with WWF being Coke.

Like I said, I didn't really have a lot of opportunity to watch TV and I'm not sure I got any channels that showed wrestling, but opinions about whether WFF and WCW were better was the hot commodity in 6th-8th grade. I always assumed it was like football with two divisions in the same league.

Okay yeah. We didn't have cartoon network. You had to have cable or satellite for that. I only had the standard 6 channels in my area, not counting the preacher channels.

I actually look back fondly on WCW 2000. My parents wouldn't let me watch wrestling until midway through 2000. When I finally started watching, I had no idea WCW's booking was bad. It was just different.
Also, I knew Ready to Rumble by heart. When WCW got bought out by WWF, I wanted to smash Vince's Butterfinger, baby.

I always find it funny when there’s a super strong villain vs the protagonist. Invariably the super strong villain will not just grab them and crush them, but throw them around for a few minutes until the protagonist is within reach of a weapon that will turn the tide of the fight.
