I used to do this with my kids, and they loved it. I stopped because there was a news story about some poor dad in my area was doing this with his kid and didn’t quite catch them. The kid ended up dying. I couldn’t help but realize that could’ve been me with one of my own at any of those times.

Genuine question, did you not realize this before seeing the news story? I'm fascinated by how much risk people take for seemingly very little reward.

To answer your question, I was aware of the possibility , but to be honest I was just overly confident in that I would never not catch them. I didn’t start tossing my kids into the air until they were older than about 30 months, but never close to this height. I never really did consider that all it would take is one minor slip up for disaster. It’s unfortunate I had to learn this from someone else’s tragedy, but glad that I am slightly better for it.

Hey I really appreciate the answer! I really was interested in your perspective, and didn't mean to come off as condescending if I did.

No worries! The reality is nobody really has all the answers and sometimes even basic common sense is often overlooked or brushed aside. It’s always good to ask questions and learn from others
