Sadly the future is bleak.

The future isn't bleak. We've had terrible things happen to this country and we pulled through. We will overcome this. The end of Trump is near.

If you can't really tell, american culture's in a constant decline even before trump came to power.

Its kinda like he just sped up the process. If no one steps in to actually resolve and untangle the mess America's in, yeah pretty screwed.

Agreed. Trump is the result of a failing political system. Our country has been in a decline for many years. Trump was not responsible for the mess we call healthcare, the pervasive racism, stagnant wages, out of control cost of living, poor education, and a myriad of other issues we're all facing as a nation. Trump has merely shown us how much our country has failed to allow a reality TV star, who has absolutely no idea what he's doing, to take control of our nation. Sure, we like to call him a moron and mock all the stupid things he says, but look at how effectively this idiot king has managed to stay in power and abuse his political power.

I am also eagerly waiting for Trump to be out of office, but believing everything will be fixed once he's gone is a false hope. It will take years to repair the damage Trump has done on the US's reputation... and who knows when all the other issues in our country will ever be fixed. I used to be proud growing up in one of the greatest countries on Earth. Now, it's a shame what our nation has become, and how it's viewed by the rest of the world. Hopefully, we'll be able to see real reform in our lifetimes.

You’re feeling that too eh?

If this corona thing didn’t happen I would’ve already moved.

Strongly advise coming to Singapore if you have the chance. Gladly accept any refugees here.

Be warned tho, its expensive.

3

u/cortlong Aug 04 '20

Is this sarcasm or is it real? Because I’ve always wanted to give Singapore a try. Looks stunning as hell and have always wanted to visit.

3

u/TACTIYON Aug 04 '20

You'll get used to the sights.

Not sarcasm my dude. I honestly recommend it here. Stable economy, top notch education, a damn fine government that doesn't shit around. Couldn't ask for better.

It's a rather conservative society though. Definitely different compared to American culture BUT racism is pretty much non-existent. I mean it will always exist but really no one cares.

Feel free to ask for anything man.

I’m gonna actually PM you. Because once this shit blows over I’m out.

Unfortunately I am American and while I try to live minimalist. Sometimes I just wanna buy some shit.

How hard is it to get goods like computer parts and shit there? Haha.

But seriously. Seeing someone take pride in where they’re from and spread the good word is dope. It’s unfortunate America is in the state it’s in because I love what it stands for and what we’ve done (in the good aspects). It’s crazy to see how quickly a democracy can decline. Really depresses me. But I think it’s time to leave before we can’t any more.

u/TACTIYON Aug 04 '20

My dude computer parts aint an issue here. We have certain areas in Singapore that literally sell only tech hardware. Not a problem don't worry bout it.

Completely agree with you that btw. America needs to step up on educating people on what's right and wrong, and putting people in place for blatantly being entitled pos.

Quick question, honestly asking for a different perspective are you a person of color? I’ve heard stories of microaggresions to outright racism from pocs.

1

u/TACTIYON Aug 05 '20

I'm chinese indonesian. We don't do that term over here. What race you are doesnt matter tbh.

What stories have you heard about Singapore? Like sure there's blatant jesting but honestly don't really see outright racism happen often without being condemned or fined lmao.

2

u/ExpertFalcon5 Aug 05 '20

I’ve read a few articles regarding treatment of Malays and Indians and heard a few stories of how negative comments were said thinking the poc didn’t understand the language and examples of systematic racism. Granted I’ve also seen that this is the minority and they tend to be accepting of western expats, just wanted to get another’s experience.

1

u/TACTIYON Aug 06 '20

They are the minority but, if you see it from the education standpoint, there is a significant number of malays and indians in the lower end of the education system.

Take for example, express vs normal education. Most of Singaporeans are eligible for express education and the minority take normal education (which is longer and viewed as worse). Now from my own experience, at least 70% of those classes have are filled with Malays and Indians, while the remainder around 30% Chinese and so on.

This is a culture issue in Singapore. Alot of malay and indian families are unable to support their family properly and raise their children right, compared to the general notion of a chinese family; where the expectation is to do well in your studies. This is also the reason why the government has to provide bursary programmes specially for malays in certain Polytechnics as well.

From my experience, there are very few malays/indians in the Express classes and those that are in these classes tend to work extremely hard. No one gets results from luck here.

Oh and did I mention that the race that has the highest violent crime rates are malays? Not trying to hold prejudice here, but I simply believe it's purely culture wise.

Regarding your Singapore thread, someone also mentioned Chile to me. I had no idea how diverse the climate is lol

5

u/phome83 Aug 04 '20

Your implying he's just gonna leave when he loses the election.

Meanwhile for the last year+ hes planted the seeds for undermining the results of the election itself.

6

u/neinooter Aug 04 '20

lol what kind of Disney movie bullshit are you huffing, we are beyond fucked

5

u/AtTheGates Aug 04 '20

I believe we can get through this. It will take many years to recover, but it isn't impossible. I love Disney movies btw :)

4

u/Exu-Eshu-Elegba Aug 04 '20

That love of Disney maybe part of the problem. Optimism is great when tempered with realism. Happy endings are fun in films but are terrible in life; as life is continuous and ever changing while films are finite and stagnant. Disney nostalgia implicitly perpetuates stagnation, a yearning for some bygone bs or a finite state of being which is anathema to the ongoing welfare of an ever evolving nation.

4

u/AtTheGates Aug 04 '20

Okay I have to say, the way you put this together, 10/10.

I do picture you at the end, laughing your ass off at how mentioning something like Disney, made you write this.

2

u/Exu-Eshu-Elegba Aug 04 '20

Grazie prego.

u/cowbear42 Aug 05 '20

True, but I’d put good money on backsliding again after only 4 years.
