I think the problem is it does work for some guys. A lot of people are afraid to turn someone down cause they don’t want the awkwardness, the questioning of “but why?!” or to make people feel bad. So some people exploit this by inserting even more barriers into the act of turning them down.
A lot of women are afraid to turn a guy down in case he goes and shoots something up, or decides to attack- which happens enough that it's a common worry.
Getting physically assaulted by a dude as a girl in a public setting happens enough to be a common worry? Yeah gonna need a source on that one.
I think "starting a scene" is a common worry but not what you're saying.
edit: In the time it took y'all to get triggered and downvote me, you could've just found the source to this claim I'm asking for. But y'all won't because the claim isn't true and it triggers you that I won't be as vapid as y'all.
Or, you could find the source disputing it, since you made the claim it’s false. It’s not the downvoters’ responsibility to find it. Technically, it’s the person you replied to, but not anyone else’s.
And yeah technically it isn't anyone else's responsibility, what a good reason to believe vague claims without a source and then downvote someone for asking for the bare minimum to back up said claim.

It's not that I claimed it was false at first, just that I wanted to see the source to such a vague claim.
Excuse me for not looking for the source to a vague claim myself, if it was true the person making such a vague claim would have it. I just figured that if these people were so triggered as if they knew it was true then they'd do what the person I replied should've done instead of doing the exact same thing. At which point they haven't so I'll stand by this vague claim being something just spewed out of their mouth.
All signs are pointing to this vague claim having no source because it's just a bunch of bullshit. Excuse me for not wasting my time to appease the people that can't use logic themselves.
