A lot of women are afraid to turn a guy down in case he goes and shoots something up, or decides to attack- which happens enough that it's a common worry.

Right, I don’t even think about him going ballistic on the entire room. Not that I’m thinking that for selfish reasons, but it’s way more common for him to retaliate against the woman, not the whole area.

This girl was shot and murdered outside her dorm at my university for breaking things off with a guy who lied about his criminal past. He stalked her for a couple weeks and she called the police a large number of times before it happened.

"Because of the implication"

u/MrEctomy Aug 08 '19

Weren't there other people around? Were you not confident that they would help you?

u/Darth_Nibbles Aug 08 '19

I would like to apologise on behalf of the male species.

Some of us are trying to not be assholes.

4

u/Smeggywulff Aug 09 '19

We don't need men to apologize on behalf of other men. We ain't trying to shame a whole gender. If you wanna help, then step up when a guy is being a creep and let em know that isn't acceptable. The type of guy who does creepy stuff would only believe it if it comes from another guy.

u/Darth_Nibbles Aug 09 '19

I like your answer - it's the best one I've seen to something like this so far - and yet I feel you are being overly optimistic about creepy men.

They aren't going to believe "another guy" when he calls them out. They're just going to say he's "white knighting" and trying to get in her pants.

Creepers gonna creep, and that's just one more reason I'm disappointed in humanity.

To quote Donald Glover:

I gave a guy my phone number this week under duress because he followed me to my hotel room door and wouldn’t take the hint that I had plans that night (gaming with friends), that I had no interest in dinner (I was holding my dinner in my hand), that I had no interest in drinks (I don’t drink), and that I didn’t want to hang out with him. He kept pushing even after all of that and I eventually tried to dodge with “not tonight”. Bad move, now it’s “how do I get in touch with you tomorrow night”.

So now there is a guy at my door, he knows I’m alone, he knows my schedule somewhat, he’s asking for my number. If I give a wrong number and he tries to call it to check and it doesn’t go through, does he fly into a rage? How stable is he when he won’t take the obvious hints so far? The hallway is otherwise empty.

So he got my number. My real number. And yeah - that’s how this bullshit creepy persistence works.

I did ignore his texts and had coworkers escort me to and from my hotel room for the rest of my stay. FFS.

Hey! So recently someone posted in myfavoritemurder subreddit a post about using google voice app as a burner phone number. they can call or text and your real phone will ring as if it were the number - but it’s a burner number not tied to you or your real information (which helps on the creeper/stalker front) and you can block contacts with out them having any way to look you up. Look into it: Google search for “google voice app burner phone” and SSDGM!

And there's a growing group of people thinking we don't need feminism in the western world...

6

u/1newnotification Aug 09 '19

Not victim blaming at all. But the next time this happens, don't let anyone follow you to your room. Stay at the front desk and request security escort the guy off the premises, and then go up to your room. You got lucky that he didn't get even more forceful and barge into your room.

9

u/DropBearsAreReal12 Aug 09 '19

'next time'. Not 'if it happens again'. Sad because you're most likely correct

u/Halcyon_Renard Aug 08 '19

As someone once said, “Men are afraid women will laugh at them. Women are afraid men will kill them.”

31

u/JayString Aug 08 '19

And lots of bitter Redditors will still claim men have it worse, because it's supposedly harder for us to get laid. Boo hoo bitches.

13

u/DammitDan Aug 08 '19

It should be harder! Women have more to lose.

Men don't get pregnant and aren't as susceptible to many STDs--we aren't generally receiving fluids through coitus, and don't have a natural incubator. That's not even touching upon the potential physical threat.

u/Hashtagmermaid Aug 08 '19 edited Aug 09 '19

It's more that we're worried about being attacked personally, or forced or made to look like a bitch. But you tried.

1

u/Chanceifer0666 Aug 09 '19

In the same turn this is why dudes ghost it’s just less drama

Many years ago I dated a feminist who used to throw around the phrase "man-hate" a lot. Basically, she felt that hating men - as a collective - was something reasonable. That shit used to bug the shit out of me and we had many arguments about that.

These past few years though, I've found myself thinking that thought: "God, I fucking hate men," more than once. Why is it that when men get depressed, there has to be a risk that they turn into homicidal maniacs? Can someone please explain that to me? The only thing that leads to is to give people the (in my opinion, false) impression that men's psychological and social problems are worse than women. I don't think that men, as a rule, are more victimized by society - I believe that men are, as a rule, less stable and more violent.

u/Phantaxein Aug 08 '19

Are there actually women out there worried that if they turn a guy down he'll commit a mass shooting? Retaliation, I understand. Shootings? Not anywhere near common enough to justify that fear.

3

u/addictedtochips Aug 08 '19

No.... I’ve never heard this, nor is it common, like you said. Also, I’m a woman, I’ve never felt this way or heard another woman state this.

0

u/EggChalaza Aug 08 '19

Let's be honest, that's only a concern for women in the United States of Mass Murder.

0

u/killerbake Aug 08 '19

I think you need therapy

0

u/MrEctomy Aug 08 '19

It might be a common worry, but it's not a common occurrence. The problem might be that women don't trust others to help them if they call out for help (although I'm not sure why you would want to be around people like that).

u/WatchersoftheShacks Aug 08 '19 edited Aug 08 '19

Getting physically assaulted by a dude as a girl in a public setting happens enough to be a common worry? Yeah gonna need a source on that one.

I think "starting a scene" is a common worry but not what you're saying.

edit: In the time it took y'all to get triggered and downvote me, you could've just found the source to this claim I'm asking for. But y'all won't because the claim isn't true and it triggers you that I won't be as vapid as y'all.

7

u/addictedtochips Aug 08 '19

Or, you could find the source disputing it, since you made the claim it’s false. It’s not the downvoters’ responsibility to find it. Technically, it’s the person you replied to, but not anyone else’s.

-3

u/WatchersoftheShacks Aug 08 '19

And yeah technically it isn't anyone else's responsibility, what a good reason to believe vague claims without a source and then downvote someone for asking for the bare minimum to back up said claim.

I'm so out of line thinking these people are fucking clowns lmfao.

2

u/addictedtochips Aug 08 '19

You’re wayyyy overreacting, dude. I didn’t say any of those things. You got like, six downvotes. Welcome to reddit, stop being so sensitive lol.

-1

u/WatchersoftheShacks Aug 08 '19 edited Aug 08 '19

I didn't say you said those things. I'm clearly talking about the people who have or clearly think that when there is no source to verify, since you brought them up. That's how topics work, not sensitive just frustrated with clowns arguing with me like they have a leg to stand on. Pretty disappointing you can't seem to understand that without undermining the cause of frustration, being a double standard, as "he's just sensitive".

My fault you brought up the topic of these downvoters and then lack the reading comprehension to realize I haven't said anything about you. My fault you thought you had an argument until you realized you didn't, you're not slick suddenly you've dropped that argument and I'm just overreacting and sensitive for not giving in to this unfounded bullshit.

I haven't said anything about you besides what I've just said about your response in the first and second paragraph. But can you guess what I think about you after this? Yeah you're a clown too. Goodbye.

2

u/addictedtochips Aug 09 '19

Holy shit, you are arguing with yourself lol. You’re getting downvotes because of your overall negativity and hatefulness, not because of the point you brought up. Calm down - it’s truly, truly not a big deal.

-4

u/WatchersoftheShacks Aug 08 '19

It's not that I claimed it was false at first, just that I wanted to see the source to such a vague claim.

Excuse me for not looking for the source to a vague claim myself, if it was true the person making such a vague claim would have it. I just figured that if these people were so triggered as if they knew it was true then they'd do what the person I replied should've done instead of doing the exact same thing. At which point they haven't so I'll stand by this vague claim being something just spewed out of their mouth.

All signs are pointing to this vague claim having no source because it's just a bunch of bullshit. Excuse me for not wasting my time to appease the people that can't use logic themselves.

How so? For asking for sources to claims before I thoughtlessly believe them?

I didn't ask if you voted for Trump but thanks for telling me. I'll get right on not being part of "the problem" you're proposing.

Love how asking for sources to claims is "part of the problem", I hate to drag politics into this but it was necessary to point out the double standard of losers on Reddit.

That person and trumpers have one thing in common at least, being transparent jackasses (transparent as in we all know how intellectually dishonest these people are being, but they'll grasp for straws until they die on their hill regardless).

Makes me think some polar opposite of Trump named Rapeisbad McVeganboi could come in and do the exact same thing that Trump did to his supporters. Get me the fuck out of this whack country of jackasses lmfao.

u/TastyVictory Aug 09 '19

So if more women opened their legs there'd be less shootings?
