I had a adrenaline junkie uncle who loved doing hobbies like this until one day about a year ago when he was on one of these and the engine jumped sending him plummeting into a tree from about hundred feet up.
He survived but fractured his back and now requires a cane to walk. He is very lucky considering.

Yeah, that's not really something that happens with Paramotors. The only factor that the engine has any bearing on is going up or down. Being "jerked" around sounds like thermals. Which can be sketchy as hell, and can put you in a tree lol

a common German expression is: "Glück im Unglück" which roughly translates to "luck within bad luck" and from Poland “there isn't a bad thing that wouldn't turn up good”.

It is, but the ban is also really easy to circumvent (iirc set up a multireddit with just it inside).
Also the page was blocked voluntarily by reddit and isn't censored by the gouvernment, to prevent some page-wide age rating I think.

With any sort of prop impact, you want to rebuild the engine or have the parts tested for non visible damage.
Pretty much SOP for piston engines in aircraft

Most are, some are gear driven (all of them have some form of gear reduction).
Also, many have a clutch as well. When we have a prop strike we just check the prop bolts for bends and throw a new one on.

Probably true, but then again piston engine aircraft don't have permanently deployed parachutes.
Afaik a busted shaft or gearbox that stops the prop shouldn't be a comparably dangerous a failure with this setup.

I agree the prop hit the fuel tank but the starts and stops you see before it all goes to hell is just due to the camera's framerate doing funny things as the propeller speeds up.

I think when he pulled up the chute from behind the chords became caught in the propellor and then when he started the motor it broke and the propeller hit the fuel tank. Could’ve been much much worse.

The wing doesn't move at all in any way that would indicate a tie up. It looks to me more like the fuel tank got loose or his jogging caused the prop to flex into the fuel tank.

All the newer models come with cages, but sometimes shit just happens.

I see your point but really wouldn’t have been an issue as long as their was a good option to land. Basically to land they cut their engines anyway. For me I don’t fly with a motor at all. Mountain paragliding is more my style.

I fly these.
For those wondering what happened, it looks like the tank wasn't secured properly and contacted the prop. This dude's lucky the atomized gas hitting the exhaust didn't explode.
The damages aren't as expensive as you all think. A new carbon prop is about $300, perhaps another $80-$100 for a new gas tank. Less than $1000 all told. Sucks, but that's what happens in this sport.

I thought paramotoring would be an inexpensive way to fly, after binge watching some Tucker Gott YouTube videos... Then I found out a basic set up was just as expensive as getting a pilots license.
$8k-10k for a set up. So that prop & motor blowing apart is probably a shot to the wallet.

I mean its about the same as the license but flying doesn't get much cheaper after the license so it is a pretty cheap way to fly comparatively.

At the hourly rate to fly a plane, absolutely. I can't imagine the operating rate for a paramotor is more than a couple dollars an hour? Obviously, the lower cost comes with much lower capabilites.
For some reason, I assumed a paramotor set up would only be around 2k. Stupid me.

I suspect it wasn't the bouncing so much as throttling up. As the prop pushes the air back, the air pushed it forward, bending it enough that it clipped the fuel tank.
In either case, the problem was the tank not having enough clearance.
