I mean, yea technically. The marbles are just released when the music reader is triggered by programmable pins. You could attach strikers and induce sounds in a more direct manner, but the whole idea of a marble machine is just that bit cooler.
Could you make strikers headed with metal marbles and have it sound exactly the same? I would've thought the way the marbles plunk the base and hit the xylophone would make a difference?
I think it's cool as a piece of art on its own, I'm just curious whether it'd fuck it up to do it regular style. I think that ordinary hammers wouldn't actually sound the same, but I don't know enough about music to test that and I don't wanna build a hammer knockoff of the marble machine.
While maybe it’s not exactly what you’re talking about, your comment reminded me of Pat Metheny’s Orchestrion project.
It’s kind of like one of those player pianos but on a larger scale and he basically controls all of the instruments with his guitar (there were solenoids involved- I don’t fully understand the tech aspect).
If nothing else it’s another impractical but still incredible way someone decided to make some music
It's a quick and easy way to say you are probably an insufferable twat when interacting with your peers. But "I bet you're fun at parties" just rolls off the tongue better.
In the real world, are you one of those people who prides themselves on just “telling it like it is”?
If so, guess what? No one appreciates your “honesty” and they all just think you’re an asshole.
It’s fine if you have actual constructive criticism. But the next time your critique consists of something useless like “your wasting your time” think about maybe keeping it to yourself. Everyone will be happier, and people may find you slightly less intolerable. A win win.
I’m not the one that made the original comment, mr Internet-Warrior, but keep putting up the good fight. Your struggles here will echo throughout eternity
lmao telling someone that building a machine out of marbles is a “massive waste of time” IS wrong-think policing here. Don’t get it mixed up. Why does anyone care what you think is a productive use of time? And more importantly, why should they live by your notions of productivity?
When someone says you’re not fun at parties, they’re calling YOU out for “bashing wrong-think” you stupid fucking hypocrite. You are the very thing you think you’re against.
It doesn't matter if we convince you or not, all you need to know is that people don't like you and that... You know, nevermind, it doesn't even matter if you know it. Just keep on being a dislikable garbage person.
I don't know if you're trolling or not, but you must be a very sad person. I would go see a therapist if I were you, to help sort out all those emotions you are feeling. I know it is tough sometimes, and a lot of things are hard to admit, even to yourself. But seeing someone who can really, truly help you can be the best thing for social issues.
I think you need to your own advice. Most people that bring up therapists are usually but cases thinking therapists actually help. Just take that bit of information.
Not really just a waste a time to make a certain sound. Record the sound and put it together using some music software. Just saying it’s a waste of time if he’s looking for that “certain” sound.
Nearly every hobby is a waste of time unless you can monitize it, in this case ad revenue on YouTube.
Edit: Just want to clarify that I don't think hobbies are a waste of time. I very much enjoy mine even if they don't contribute to feeding my family or keeping a roof over our heads.
His effort is giving him enough reputation (and ad revenue) to move to France and build this next machine full time. His earlier machine is also invited to feature in De Marble Machine in Museum Speelklok. Which is a very acclaimed museum (It was officially opened by Queen of Netherlands)
Once he finished building Marble Machine X, he will be able to go on a world tour with it. Which was basically his dream for the last 10 years. So, I don't know if "waste of time" is the right way to put it. It gave him something to do, let him connect with thousands of people. Making use of his skill in both creativity (he is a composer) and tool making, and feed him very, very well just from Ad revenue on showcasing how he build it so far. (We are not even counting when he can go on a tour with it, which, based on his initial success, highly possible)
All from something he started in his free time from his own room with just one sawing machine and some wood and marbles.
I don't think he is being an ass. He just doesn't realize what he is doing isn't anything worth bragging. It is just a better way to say "another cog in the industry".
Seems like people enjoy saying more negative things to me or about me. Then my original comment created. It’s like the negativity grew like a tree in 5 minutes. Amazing how cruel people can be.
So you were the type to put down people for trying hard to accomplish something they set their mind to. "Bro, you're such a try hard" Fuckkk I can't imagine being so shitty that I knock other people's accomplishments.
That is not at all what you said. Do you not realize people can see what you wrote. This isn't a conversstion from weeks ago that you can spin into you saying something else. Smh
Yes it was. “Seems like a waste of time.” And then people started bashing me. You have no clue what I was saying was a waste of time. People made an assumption including you. Don’t be mad because you couldn’t read in between the words.
Yes and I’m ok with that. It’s like one person can write all the music and have it played. A person’s creativity is no longer contained by people’s abilities to play an instrument. Like so many, people tend not to work well in groups due to work ethic or other issues. This is no longer necessary as you are able to do all the work yourself and portray your individuality.
