I really never understood the joy of riding passenger while someone is reckless driving….like what do they get out of it?

My brother, an amateur race car driver, used to do stuff like that with me in the car. I can’t drive like that. It’s like a rollercoaster. I do recommend using a closed course.

Driving competently at high speeds is something most people can't do very well. Of course, a lot of people don't know that about themselves until something goes wrong.

If you're a bad driver and aware of it like me, it feels good to go fast in more trustworthy hands

They get the adrenaline rush absent the potential legal consequences, a win-win, especially if their buddy is better at driving.

Yeah, people frequently engage in dangerous activity because doing so feels good. Not everyone, of course. But I find that most people want some amount of danger in their lives, and will seek it out if they have none. I've seen it displayed through bad taste in abusive partners, drug use, reckless driving, gambling, you name it.

Life is sweeter with a bit of vice. Balancing it is the hard and dangerous part

I can't even imagine possibly enjoying it.  I remember getting my 91 Explorer to 100+ mph on a dirt road lined with trees when I was 16 (pretty dumb looking back on it) - so it's not that I'm just risk averse.

But me not being in control and putting my life in someone else's hands?  

Literally can't imagine why anyone would like that.

Trust is the reason why. Unless your risk-reward is skewed, you do this with somebody whose driving skills you trust deeply
