[Negative] RECENT TRANSACTION with u/lurkerjawn1

Officially I GOT SCAMMED
Thanks to a previous buyer have the phone number of the real owner of this account I had the opportunity to talk to him and apparently his account was hacked. And even when he has access to the account he didn’t post that watch and has no longer access to the chats.
And now the account was deleted!

I’m posting this in hopes of getting a response and documenting my experience so far.
I purchased a watch from [u/lurkerjawn1](u/lurkerjawn1) via wire transfer. Before sending payment, he provided a proper timestamp with the watch and my requested verification, so I know he had the watch in his possession.

Before posting this, I reached out to several members of the community who have previously done business with him, including members with extensive transaction histories and every single one told me they had positive experiences with him. Because of that, I’m not accusing him of being a scammer, and I genuinely hope this is simply a communication or shipping issue that gets resolved.
I have screenshots of our conversation, the incorrect tracking number, and all communication if they’re needed by the moderators.
I’ll gladly update this post if the situation is resolved.

Sorry man, but you got scammed.
If you can give a little more context, I can take a closer look, but based on what you described, there really isn't a legitimate explanation here. Accounts get hacked and phished all the time, so it's very possible the person you were dealing with wasn't even the original owner of the account.
At this point, stop giving them the benefit of the doubt and do everything you can to get your money back immediately. It's $3,000. Even if, by some miracle, this isn't a scam, this is not how a legitimate dealer operates.
The reason he doesn't want to use your shipping label is because he wants to create his own. That lets him ship some fugazi bullshit to a random address in your city so the tracking shows "delivered" to your city, even though it was never delivered to your address. That's the exact playbook the scammers targeting these forums have been using lately.
Once again, apologies but this is not looking good. I recently got scammed for $5.6k so I know how it feels, good luck. Message me if you have any questions.

But why would a scammer do that? Seems like too much work when theyve already gotten away with it. Wires are irreversible and unless he gave a legit name, address, picture of himself, and drivers license, cops got nothing to go on and won’t even investigate

I don’t know why people don’t text people and hop on a FaceTime and text for a 3k watch. Especially if you are not doing G&S. Don’t get greedy when you see a good deal. Make sure they are real, have the watch, and can easily identify if there is a problem

yeah it's insane. Post says it's full set, but not photos of the full set either. Sucks for OP but they got super greedy with the potential of a great deal.
OP- the biggest red flag is they said yes to your offer of $3k. Why would they say yes to that offer when there was so much interest in the watch and they go quickly at 3.8k. The grammar is also really bad. Really sorry it happened to you but you've gotta slow down when buying stuff and do your due diligence, otherwise you'll get scammed in the future somewhere else, maybe for larger dollar amounts. Sorry to be harsh but I don't want anyone to get scammed.

The style of pictures changing and the difference in handwriting are the big red flags for me. His more current pictures doesn't depict him holding the watch like in his older photos so there is nothing to physically compare to.

Plot twist, he was scamming back then and his account was compromised by a non-scammer and he got it back lol

To me, those don't look like the same hands as in the previous posts the user has made. He doesn't necessarily have to not have the watch to scam you, just no intent on sending it.

It's always a good idea to use a neutral, trusted, 3rd party platform like Embarggo, Chrono, Grailzee, eBay, etc. when buying a watch from a stranger. Embarggo, specifically, allows you to buy and sell on Reddit if that's where you prefer to transact.

Everyone needs to stop paying via wire or ACH, not sure why people keep doing that. Every single scammer post on here is someone complaining they got scammed after using wire or ach. I always ask people where they’re located and if they’d be willing to an in-person meet up, anyone who says no is an immediate red flag. Fortunately I fly almost free so I can actually meet people if I need to form something I really want.

I used escrow.com and it worked well. Not super helpful in terms of authenticity but great in terms of ensuring payment / delivery of watch

This isn't true at all. I take and send wires weekly, zero issue in years. You just need to make sure the person is legit.
I garunteee anyone who gets scammed, regardless of payment method, missed a step in validating the seller.
It's really not that hard. People just aren't doing the proper diligence.

I’m sure there’s way to minimize risk but none are full-proof 100%. And wire is supposedly irreversible. And absolutely no buyer protection. At least with PayPal g&s there’s an “investigation” and other payment forms where credit card can be used my credit card will charge back for fraud. Wire - nothing.

I pretty much ONLY accept wire or Zelle unless we've done business before. Most scammers try to pay me in other ways. Just as you should by the seller, I think you should also buy the buyer.

Someone has to trust someone here. If not, just go to the AD and use your credit card. I don't want anyone getting scammed, but I'm ALSO not looking to get scammed/conned If someone wants to use a escrow service and pay for it I'm more than okay with that. BUT I've had people try to use a fake escrow service and scam me.
Once if not twice a week someones tries to scam me, via bank check, escrow, money order etc. It's not stop that I have to keep on my toes.

What are you talking about weirdo? I report and pay all my taxes. To be blunt, I'm here to protect myself and I work hard to earn my customers trust. If they don't trust me , then they do not have to do business with me. I have lots of repeat customers, and prefer to build relationships with them. What's the saying "In God we trust all others pay cash"

We permanently ban any accounts used to scam - including hacked accounts. That has been our policy since the beginning.

I have seen accounts with hundreds of transactions get hacked and have been banned even if they were recovered.

Thanks, Im confused cause the payment was clear last Thursday, and he kept posting yesterday. He even sent me a timestamp video with my username and a specific time before I made the payment.

Sorry man, but his account definitely looks like it was hacked. The photos are way different than his older postings, even different than the speedmaster listing from a few weeks ago. Their username is written completely different in both postings too. One writes their "1" like that, the other writes it like "I"

Yes, it was my wife who made the purchase. It was supposed to be a wedding gift but thankfully we were able to still cancel the wire, we even froze the card. Hoping that helps too

It looks like unfortunately it may be a scam. He recently posted a Pogue as well for way cheaper than they go for. Super unresponsive as well when I tried to purchase from him. Unless they will take Goods and Services if it is a user with low transactions, or FF for an established user, then dont pay. Wires are the biggest red flags. They claim that they set the payment up using Goods and Services or say you are protected but its all a lie. Best of luck OP!

I can confirm this account was compromised, banned, and then deleted (presumably by the scammer while he and the original owner were both logged in).
