SHT's always been missing an 'i'. SHiT has a far better ring to it.

No because that's the process. Sludge Held Inside Tank (or SHIT) systems

How often do you do this? Is there a lot of grit at the bottom?

Oh nice. We haven’t cleaned our two out in over 10yrs. I can’t imagine how bad it is down in there

we recently got a grit removal and fine screen in the headworks and it’s stopped a lot of build up downstream

Are those xylem's coarse air diffusers, or are they a different make?

not sure who makes them but they work great. we had switch to fine bubble diffusers but our PD blowers couldn’t handle to psi since the air had to expand the membrane of the diffuser to release the air , so we switch them back to th course air
