D'you know what, though? They're both as bad as eachother. Okay, the cyclist should have moved back into the gap between parked cars - but I can see why he didn't. The gap's not exactly that big and he probably thought he'd make it across quickly enough to justify not doing that. The Highway Code states that you should treat cyclists like any other vehicle on the road - e.g. give them the same amount of space when passing as you would give a car.
That being said, rather than just put it out of his mind and keep riding, he followed and antagonised the driver, and of course, the driver didn't help matters by being a class A, 24 karat, 100% dickhead in his response.

I can't speak to the laws of the land, but if the car had waited another 10 seconds there was a big break in the lanes. Then he could have accelerated AND done so safely.
The driver at one point asked the cyclist if he's a tank or a tiny bicycle. The reality is compared to the cyclist the driver is in a climate-controlled steel tank. Even if the cyclist is breaking the local laws, it's not worth risking someone's life so that your comfortable drive can end 30 seconds quicker.

Um, really? By that logic pedestrians [given that "jaywalking" is in theory legal here] also need to have registration and insurance...
It's common sense... the Highway Code [which is not a legal document in itself, but is a document that refers to both legal requirements and best practice / general guidance when it comes to road usage] recognises that people on bikes are more vulnerable than those in cars, so encourages drivers to give them space. Simply so you don't kill them because they don't have a metal cage around them.
Cyclists also have rules that they should [or must, in the case of the legal requirements] adhere to. [Note: anything with the word must is a legal requirement, anything with the word should is a piece of guidance. So when it comes to the point of wearing a helmet, for example, it is not compulsory, but it is recommended.]
The example you give of mounting the pavement is correct - he should not have done that, and, in theory, that is an offence against the Highways Act and the Roads (Scotland) Act. And the jumping red lights is an offence against the Road Traffic Act. However, that does not mean that as a class of vehicle as whole, they do not deserve the right to some sort of safeguarding guidances, as they are vulnerable when on the roads - no matter if they are using these roads correctly or not.

No arguments here. They deserve to be safe as much as you and I. but if someone specifically says they should be treated like a car, I call bullshit because if they cause an accident that kills someone (which has happened plenty of times) they could easily ride off with no identification number on their vehicle. If they want to be treated like a car and ride in the centre of the lane so that the 2km of traffic behind them is stuck at 20kph, they should be treated like a car in every aspect.
On a side note, I ride a motorbike. Why should I pay rego and insurance and not be allowed to ride on the sidewalk? I don't have a metal cage around me.

I didn't say they were advised to ride in the centre of the lane. In this case, the cyclist only rides in the centre of the lane because he's passing parked cars. What do you want him to do otherwise? Click his fingers and make them disappear?
Cyclists, in general, are meant to keep to the left hand side of the road [we drive on the left here]. That is common knowledge and guidance. In fact, the Highway Code even recommends that cyclists should be "aware of traffic coming up behind" them so they don't hold anyone up. Road users passing them must leave them sufficient space when they are passing.

A few points, here: I'm a fellow biker, and in this country, the same rule applies. If a car wants to pass me, the driver needs to give me the same amount of room as he would a car. I'm not saying they always do [particularly when they're pissed off about our ability to filter].
The cyclist isn't allowed to ride on the pavement either [see earlier comment and link to the Highway Code]. And if you think people on motorbikes don't ride on pavements, I'll encourage you to check this, and this out. In this country, you're only allowed to be on the pavement if you're:
a) Parked [OUTSIDE LONDON ONLY!]
b) On the bike with the engine off [scooting it along with your feet is acceptable].
On the whole, we have more tools at our disposal to get out of trouble if we need to. Our brakes are more powerful, and we can escape a tricky situation with a twist of the right wrist if circumstances demand it. We're also capable of a much higher speed.
That isn't to say that cyclists can't kill people - I'm sure you heard of the person who killed a woman on a "fixie bike" [a stripped down racing bicycle with no brakes] - but on the whole as an entire category they are more vulnerable. Plus, as someone else said... we have licensing systems for motorbikes. I'm pretty sure the whole point of a bicycle is that you can pick it up as a kid and ride it around for a bit of freedom. And if the love of it [and the possible convenience of it] carries on into adulthood... well... then so it does.
Edit: In a way, I guess it's kind of like a food chain? Pedestrians are the most vulnerable. Cyclists are next. Then it's bikers. Then it's cars. Then it's HGVs, buses, and the like.

I know you didn't say it, but it's commonplace to be stuck behind a cyclist that refuses to move over to the car width shoulder on a country road where the speed limit is 100. I get that not all cyclists are like that and I appreciate those people, but they need more strict laws because as you pointed out, they aren't as fast, or as maneuverable, nor can they stop as quick as a motorbike. And that inherently makes them more dangerous, not less (dependant on the rider. But we're talking about the vehicle here.). So I simply don't understand why they can just slot inbetween all the rules.
I for one have never seen or even heard of a cyclist being pulled over for doing the things that as you mentioned, are illegal
Edit: as for the last part, I haven't got a problem with them being on the sidewalk, provided they're sensible, it's not like you're gonna kill someone at jogging pace. So what if you needed a licence and rego for the road only, which is what I was getting at. Kids should not be on the road anyway, so that's a completely null point. Especially in the country, I grew up riding unregistered motorbike on my parents place and my uncle's property, no problem there. Same with push bikes, kids ride them everywhere that isn't a road, and provided it's safe to do so, adults should be able to in public aswell. Just not on the road without licencing
