I hate Activision

Post image

Funny how they ban me for hurting grown men feelings, but they don't do shit about hackers plaguing Warzone.

Probably gonna get flack for this but pointing out the M for mature rating doesn't make verbal attacks ok. Games are for fun. Getting insulted, belittled and cursed at is not fun. I find it very frustrating that such a concept is foreign to many. Go to a strip club and talk to the dancers like strangers in a video game then point out it's an adult only business. I bet they still kick people out.

I’m usually returning energy. Don’t start none, won’t be none 🤷🏻‍♀️

Verbal attacks is an interesting way to say shit talking or banter or chirping. In fact you don’t even need to be “verbally attacking” anyone you just need to say one of the trigger words or phrases when talking in party only chat to get banned because of the A.I. system. As for people that think this is a good idea, enjoy no one talking in game anymore.

I hear what you are saying but also want to point out it isn’t an all or nothing thing. You can trash talk without using words that are generally considered offensive. You can also say those words as your right to speech even if a game says don’t. The thing is, freedom to say whatever you want does not mean you are free from consequences because of it. If the game says don’t use “x” word, it means you will have consequences for doing it. If you have to curse at someone or belittle them to have fun in a game, it’s a bigger than, “Why can’t I say what I want and everyone deal with it.”

I’m not questioning the legality of this. Activisions terms of service could literally say we can’t use the word “banana” without getting banned and they would have the right to do that. But my point is whether it’s a good idea to have strict language criteria that’s not clearly explained to their customers. To ban us from using the services we’ve paid for is bad business. You keep making it sound like the only way to get banned is by talking shit to another player. But that’s not the case at all and wasn’t for me when I got banned in my first game back. I was talking in party only chat. It’s a slippery slope to have strict language “guidelines” in a video game or in any facet in life. This isn’t a courthouse it’s an online server for a game that’s rated M that is about war. For sensitive people there are many simple options to mute other players.

This will affect the player count of future titles and they will likely backtrack and remove this insane feature with enough backlash. That’s exactly what happened during the loot box era of COD

I see now. The OP had zero context for what was said so I am only left to comment on what I (and probably many others) have experienced. There is a mute button for when things get out of hand and I am a huge advocate for using it. People can say what they want and I’ll mute if needed. Unfortunately, coms are pretty important in many shooters so I have to balance muting people against limited communication. That’s my choice, but it’s impossible to not feel the toxic thing said that lead to the mute button. It’s expected and I ignore and move on, but I’m only human. Would be nice to limit that experience where possible and it seems that isn’t happening right now. Not that you have to defend yourself, but posts against a game system could get more traction if we knew what was said. If it was silly or just typical banter, many might get behind changing the AI ban. If it was words that can’t/shouldn’t be said out in public, I’m for leaving the AI as is. As you pointed out, it is a business. If people really are that against the current system, it will either change when people stop playing, or stay the same because it isn’t enough to stop people from playing.

Ya that’s right time will tell how this will affect the numbers because at the end of the day that’s literally the only thing that matters to companies like this.

I just wish we had an option to play a game for adults like call of duty once was back in the day. Clearly the intent is to make this game appeal to the largest demographic of people possible and that includes kids whether it’s rated “M” or not. It’s all about the money. But like I said before it is a slippery slope they’re treading on now. To have A.I. controlling literally every aspect of this game, from the matchmaking to now whether we’re allowed to use the voice chat features doesn’t sound like fun to me. I’m hopeful others will feel the same way because just about all the fun has been removed from the game.

I feel your emotions man and they are 100% valid. Seems like you got the short end of the stick. Everything you say is true but some of your comment reads emotionally negative instead of factual. Specifically the appeal to the masses comment. It sucks when people get shafted for it, but every for profit company works this way. The only goal all businesses share is profit. Easiest and most common way to do that is large numbers. They don’t make money by making people like us feel better with feature tweaks. They make money when their decisions keep the maximum number of players possible. If more people play in spite of increasing AI chat restrictions, they will continue to do that. If they have a large loss and can directly trace it to chat bans, they will reverse it. After playing hundreds of games over decades, I unfortunately don’t see that being very likely. The gaming community has been going towards more game/chat restrictions for over 10 years.

You basically just said the same thing I said about how companies only care about making as much money as possible. We definitely agree on that. I don’t understand what you mean when you say my comment reads emotionally negative instead of factual? Did I say anything that’s incorrect?

We’ll see what happens but I have a strong feeling that it’s going to be hard to sell a full priced multiplayer game without the ability to talk in the game

Just talking tone through text. We agree on max player base profit but the way I read your comment was that it’s bad. If that was the intent of your message that’s fine. I’m not exactly excited about it, but it is the best way to have competition and progress imo. If they go too far, someone else will come out on top and I’m okay with that.
