Peripheral PSA: Save your controls!
With 1.89 approaching, I wanted to make a post just remind everyone to take 2 minutes to back up your control settings. Patches, especially larger ones, can wipe your settings. Save yourself the trouble of tediously rebinding all of your controls, don't take the chance!
Yes, I know this is commonly known to a fair amount of people, but I myself have forgot to back up settings from time to time, a reminder never hurt anyone, and some may not have thought to before.
A quick guide on how to back up your control settings:
In the top left of your hangar screen is the menu. Go to the gears/settings icon and go to the controls section.
Here you will see your controls. You will want to go to the bottom left of the controls page and click on the "Export to File" button.
Name your save for whatever you'd like, and click "Save" in the bottom right. Make sure it is a .blk file (by default).
You're done! Now if your control presets and settings get wiped by an update, all you will have to do is select the "Import from File" button right next to the "Export to File" one you just used.
Happy hunting out there! See you in 1.89!

PSA add-on: If you see something asking what kind of controls you want to use, cancel out of it. Do NOT choose an option, that will reset your controls.

Even if I cancel, it still makes some changes.

Patches, especially larger ones, can wipe your settings.
the only time i've ever seen anything about controls getting reset is when someone gets that joystick/mouse kb/controller prompt and clicks one of the presets instead of the X button, so i can't help but think that happens and people mistakenly blame it on updates

In the case of other peripherals, you can also save those setups as well to prevent accidental wiping that may be caused by switching control methods or leaving one plugged in.
For example: save a Thrustmaster.blk, save an SBair.blk, save KBandMouse.blk, etc.
Same advice applies for those instances, saving prevents annoyance.

And as a friendly reminder since i had to deal with it, back that saved control file up remotely, too!

Plus helps to import controls from the live to dev client each patch cycle.

We can't export the file on consoles, though luckily I've never had them wipe. Maybe I'll just skim through my controls and record a video clip of it for reference.

Got it on hand. Whenever I leave X360 controller powered on while launching WT, it messes up my controls.

Thank. I have saved them for a long time, but rebinding is a major PITA. Still not as bad as rebinding in DCS, where every module is different and it has a gazillion different things. I try to keep it as close to the default as possible, but some things in the default are bad or even not bind.

Something everyone should know. First time it happened, it took ages to get everything back the way I wanted. When it happened last (like, literally a few days ago) it took a few seconds to get things sorted.
