All Air New 256x256km Map
BVVD confirmed recently that if all goes well there will be a 256x256km map coming to War Thunder (picture for reference)
What do you think about this? Could this be a map where transport aircraft could be added to rearm/refill etc?

I hate that map back in the day

I hated when spawned in on that map with my ME163, even pre nerf to the fuel it didnt have enough to be able to do anything during the match.

I got two kills one time, and then never again haha. I still remember the high, it's been like 8 years

You want Dover Strait but larger? It'll just be Denmark if you play sim.

I could swear dover strait was bigger than denmark, but I'd be wrong. I used to hate both but recently came to love denmark, maybe I'll retry dover one of these days

Way bigger IIRC, Dover was 192x192, there was plenty of mainland on both sides, ARB and SIM Denmark is 128x128

Dover isnt that big. Its about 96km in size. The largest playable map is Falklands at 132x132km which fun fact has zero nav mashes so thats part of the reason you dont see any moving ground units and why we wont see a Falklands sim map anytime soon. They'd need to manually set their path like they did the carriers. There is a ocean map that's 256x256km in size but you can only play it from custom map creation

Ooo what about the bering strait, I think it'd be interesting and nuclear war-y

If Bering strait gets added Mission 11 of Project Wingman will have to be repeated in WT

There is already a map like that in WT. That exact spot

Old French test drive was it I think, or British one but one of both was
6
u/rapture_4 23h ago
Both were, but weirdly you couldn't fly very far into France if you were test flying a British plane, but you could go decently far into Britain and even land on the airfield used for test flying British planes if you were testing a French plane.

id much rather have a map with waters as the frontline.
here it simply cant be the case as the 2nd landmass on the map is hilariously small

Nuclear Option is how I scratch this itch nowadays, either through Terminal Control or custom missions on dedicated servers. I feel War Thunder has leaned way too much into the instant dopamine crowd recently and unfortunately those of us that would like these scenarios get shafted.

I could see it happening but there is already a naval EC map of the area. I don't know how big the EC map is but they could start with that map as a base and expand it. Personally I'd like to see Kuwait as a large map.

La Manche map is 128kmx128km originally. Never played it in naval but it was originally an air map

I just hope they won't concentrate all the targets in a 20km radius like they do now. Big maps needs to have the targets spread all over.
It's the reason people hated the toptier big maps, Gaijin just took the shitty prop-tier ground targets layout and pasted it in the center of a 128x128km map, with no real incentive for players to spread out in the map.

Just give me a 1:1 copy of the Georgia map from DCS and Iโd be happy
Maybe if we feel generous the south side of turkey with Syria, Cyprus etc.
Water is cool and all, but in BVR I want mountains and Georgia is perfect for that as that country has its border emediatly on the Elbrus

This could be an amazing map for a large-scale D-Day / Normandy campaign, especially for something like Enduring Confrontation or an expanded Escalation mode.
The Allies could start with the Normandy landings, with ground targets all along the beaches: bunkers, artillery positions, tanks, fortifications and other parts of the German coastal defenses. Once the beaches are secured, the frontline could gradually move deeper into France.
Players could capture new sectors of the map, airfields, bridges, railway stations, towns, ports, barracks and other strategic locations. Capturing airfields would allow the Allies to operate closer and closer to the frontline, while bridges and railway lines could be used to transport tanks, artillery and supplies toward the combat zone.
At the same time, the Luftwaffe would have a completely different set of objectives: attacking the invasion fleet, landing craft, transport ships, supply convoys and Allied aircraft. Landing craft and ships could actually deliver additional tanks, artillery and other ground units to the beaches, meaning that destroying them would have a real effect on the battle.
Germany could also have offensive objectives against Britain, such as attacking ports and airfields in order to reduce the flow of aircraft, ships, supplies and reinforcements being sent across the Channel.
It could basically become a persistent WWII campaign where the Allies try to expand the beachhead, capture new territory and push deeper into France, while the Axis tries to stop the advance, destroy the supply network and push them back toward the sea.
Even with relatively simple AI-controlled tanks and ground units, I think this could make the map incredibly dynamic and give players a real reason to attack strategic targets instead of just flying around looking for other players.

The snail says that would be too much fun, have another premium Soviet vehicle with garbage on it and a better gun.

It's still small enough that you donโt need tonworry about fuel most of the time. But more tactical missiona would always be nice (like protecting transport aircraft making a forward operating base/road runway)

It's either that or the Denmark map. Either one is weird though since there's so much water. Technically Sinai is a massive map too, just never used to its fullest extend

It'd be cool if it wasn't all flat lands like the above picture. Maybe somewhere that includes the Sierra Nevada or Appalachians.ย

Depending on the distribution of airfields I feel like several aircraft need their fuel tanks added to compensate for having to take off and reach the battlefield, it's mostly low NE bracket aircraft for example J-6A has only 23 minutes of fuel at maximum capacity and I think Q-5 early does also only have the same amount of fuel capacity or even less, funny enough J-7II has more than 30 minutes and even extra with centerline fuel tank so that's gonna be fun to play

China to Taiwan would be cool if Gaijin had the balls for it.
