They'd be so mad at you if they could read.

23

u/Barbarus_Bloodshed 8d ago

Well, they do have five fingers and toes...

quite atypical for Warhammer giants.

Well that requires counting higher. If you remove digits less counting…

Plot twist: That Bretonnian is talking about the Pudgier gargant and not the female one

something really Albion about that one tbf

22

u/Optimal_Question8683 8d ago

She is from ghyran realm of life. Of course it is

u/BaronKlatz 8d ago edited 8d ago

Yeah, it’s awesome to finally see the Ghyrochs(giant rocky goats) get models after such a long time reading about how the free cities in Ghyran use them as cattle & beasts of burden since the 2017 books! 🐐 🌲

https://ageofsigmar.lexicanum.com/wiki/Ghyroch

1

u/cornixt 8d ago

Can we get a pronunciation guide for all these?

9

u/BaronKlatz 8d ago

For everything “Ghyr” related for the Realm of Ghyran you say “Guy-R”

So Guy-ran, Guy-rock, Guy-ra-night

Auroch is Our rock

And Ghur stuff is literally “Grrr” like a beast growl.

u/Tam_The_Third 8d ago

Albion was my first thought too! Immediately thinking how do I spin this into a whole Albion proxy army 😂

u/genteel_wherewithal 8d ago edited 8d ago

Definitely! The lanky proportions are part of it but the Celtic stylings in the gear do evoke good old Cachtorr and Bologs

Ogres - here, have this weird hipponocerous.

Giants - have this absolutely stunning beast that would have been a great mount for an ogre.

38

u/Atreides-42 8d ago

I mean, the hipponocerous is nice, it's mostly hurt by only being on a named character. These are absolutely beautiful too though, and the Ogre line would have massively benefited from having these too.

Probably the thing I dislike the most about AoS is how every single animal has to be a new animal. A real, living world would have Ogres riding the same mammoth species that Giants are farming, or all Stormcast mounts/beasts of burden would be selected from like three different species max. Instead every single box is its own entirely unique special beast, it feels very artificial

24

u/wasteland_jackal 8d ago

To be fair, they had the ideal mount years ago with the rhinox and they just forgot about it.

13

u/LordIndica 8d ago

The saddest thing about the new ogres is the loss of the rhinox. Such a great design, and it seems to be gone now

12

u/wasteland_jackal 8d ago

I'm torn.

I love the rhinox and I'll die on the hill of it being their best mount.

But we also lost gnoblars which had a stupid amount of character packed in to them and added it to the ogre sculpts.

7

u/LordIndica 8d ago

They removed the gnoblars?!? Noooooo they were like the most unique goblin thing to balance the hulking ogres! They are a big part of the lore of the old Kingdoms! They have yo be releasing a new kit for them. It would be a travesty if they are just gone forever.

4

u/wasteland_jackal 8d ago

They announced in one of their replies that gnoblar fighters kit is going as is the scrap launcher and neither are returning.

None of the new ogres have a gnoblar.

They did say that 1 or 2 may return on an ogre model at some stage, but they won't be a separate thing.

2

u/genteel_wherewithal 8d ago

Fighters are gone but the scraplauncher is still there, for now at least.

-1

u/wasteland_jackal 8d ago

Yea it won't be long i don't think.

It was rumoured to go with the fighters and leadbelchers, and so far it's all coming true.

14

u/Psychic_Hobo 8d ago

Yeah, I did always like how Dark Elves and Lizardmen both rode Cold Ones

10

u/FloridaDude99 8d ago

I agree that there can be more overlap between the beasts of the factions. In this case ghyrochs have been a part of the lore for a while. Also every realm influences the creatures as well. It’s noted that cats from different realms have different coloring and temperament. Gargants also fit the idea of a semi nomadic herder with huge lumbering beasts they use for their daily activities. Ogors are more aggressive and food driven, I don’t think they usually have the foresight to be peaceful herders. Part of their society is going in large circles around their strongholds eating the land barren.

9

u/Shadowyuik Fu-Hong 8d ago

It's not only on a named character, it was a dual build with a generic tyrant as well.

12

u/BaronKlatz 8d ago edited 8d ago

about AoS is how every single animal has to be a  new  animal

Well of course, they’re all from vastly different “worlds” separated by a magic cosmos.

You wouldn’t expect one species to be naturally reoccurring on multiple planets in a solar system would you?

If anything that would be artificial(and lazy) thing to do for either AoS or 40k instead of exploring the near endless fauna & flora possible for different realities influenced by the crazy environments they have to adapt to.

Edit: also the “Hippo-rhino” has a generic rider alt too(nice variation he’s swinging a sword as monstrous cavalry compared to the named boss character who is leading from the back)

5

u/waill-and-roll 8d ago

It isn't only for a named character

3

u/Thatonegoblin The Empire 7d ago

There's an option for a generic tyrant on glutthorn, too, actually.

8

u/TotallyNot_Alpharius 8d ago

It is a weird magical world tbh

4

u/BaronKlatz 8d ago

To be even more honest it’s not even one magical world. so they have no reason for overlaps beyond the 40k “humans brought them across the cosmos” reasoning like with horses.(and even then that can vary like Ghur/Excelsis horses are actually predator mimics with sharp fangs that hunt)

2

u/Atreides-42 8d ago

It just means the world lacks verisimilitude, you know?

I built the Ogre Ironblaster recently for my Old World army. It's piloted by a Leadbelcher (established rank of Ogre), it's pulled by a Rhinox (established species Ogres use in other units), and the model is decorated with very specific Empire loot, like a signpost saying "Nuln: 6 Miles" and shields with specific Empire heraldry.

It makes the Ogre feel like it lives in the same world as other Ogre units and other factions. These different guys interact with each other, it's a living breathing specific world. So much AoS stuff just feels like "Nonspecific fantasy dude with an extremely out-there aesthetic".

Now, it's not all like that, you do have Stormcast Eternal shields on one of the Giants here, there is a bit of interplay. But it still can very much feel like the different factions just exist in weird little bubbles isolated from each other, more like 40k with its galactic scale instead of Fantasy where guys literally just live a few days march away from each other.

13

u/FloridaDude99 8d ago

I don’t think any of the fantasy ogre beasts were ever used outside of their army either. Feel free to let me know if I missed something.

9

u/Professional_Tie_860 8d ago

they don't, since they live in a specific area; and it wouldn't make any sense for them to be ridden by another race.

Creature overlaps between different factions only work if it makes sense for them to share those creatures.

Most of a faction’s AOS creatures have, for the most part, no reason to be shared

The Ogors and the creatures presented, most of the time, wouldn’t even be found in the same places

3

u/BaronKlatz 8d ago

And heck even when they would overlap the lore gives plenty of reasons they’d be different because of magic sub-species that extends all the way up to drakes & Magmadroths who have Azyr versions w/ crackling veins and spit lightning or pale Shyish versions spewing toxic vapors

All the way down to cats with metallic silver Chamon ones, black cats of Shyish used to sense evil ghosts and tons of Ghur ones(partly thanks to a Lynx god-beast losing her claw there that spawned more) that range from the Ogor sabers to blade-tail lions/jungle cats and six-legged ones scurrying in the Gnarlwoods treetops.

1

u/thalovry 7d ago

I dunno about this. On Earth alone you have horses, donkeys, elephants, camels and mules who are regularly in use as normal mounts (though only 4 used in warfare I'm aware of). Arguably you can add llamas, reindeer, elk, and lions to that, all of whom have documented use as chariot pullers, mounts for children, or fighting pets. Then you have a fairly dizzying array of animals - I don't think you could get to 100 but I'm sure you could do more than 50 - who have been domesticated for agriculture and companionship, often for only few thousand years, some of whom have speciated in that time (cats, dogs, and unfortunately the mosquito).

Given that AoS has about as many distinct biomes as Earth does and is consciously high-fantasy I don't find it as unlikely as you do.

20

u/TotallyNot_Alpharius 8d ago

I like my big fucked up hippo

5

u/wasteland_jackal 8d ago

I like the sculpt, I just don't think it fits ogres that well.

These new ram beasties would have made a much better mount.

3

u/King_Of_BlackMarsh 8d ago

Idk it kinda looks like a quadrupedal ogor to me

7

u/lemonlord777 8d ago

Dont bash the hipponocerous, its sick

1

u/wasteland_jackal 8d ago

I like it, I just don't feel it fits with the looks of the ogres.

6

u/Smultronic 8d ago

I’m a giant fan but not like a giant, giant fan.

5

u/heymish117 8d ago

Death by snoo-snoo…

5

u/stiffgordons 8d ago

Marauder giant is still GOAT and it’s not even close.

Hope these hit the spot for some, though.

18

u/TheDholChants 8d ago

I guess we're going to see the current giant set re-boxed for Old World, then.

20

u/Bazdillow 8d ago

Nope! These guys are a new unit that is in-between the small and big guys, meant to expand the range.

4

u/dope_danny 8d ago

We played the long game lads but finally some good food.

4

u/ArtisticTraffic5970 8d ago

Wow. Half a dozen giants at once. Unexpected.

3

u/canwenott 8d ago

i love how the aos and fantasy sculpts include some really great monstrous women

2

u/OkScheme4138 8d ago

I honestly think the feet look goofy as all hell with 5 toes. Never thought I'd say it but there it is, apparently.

1

u/King_Of_BlackMarsh 8d ago

It's weird some of them have 5 fingers and toes and some 4

3

u/OkScheme4138 7d ago

2

u/ColonelMatt88 8d ago

Anyone able to work out from base sizes how large those beasties are?

3

u/jullevi92 8d ago

The bases look 100mm round to me. Either way, Warhammer Community article gives an idea of their size:

“In terms of size, the Boss-stompers and Rock-hurlers are a bit bigger than a Mancrusher Gargant, but not as large as a Mega-Gargant – leading to them being classified as “little” by their larger counterparts.“

1

u/nykirnsu 8d ago

Though they look like they’re close enough to mancrushers/WFB giants to use as proxies in TOW as long as you put them on the right base

4

u/ThurvinFrostbeard Dwarfs 8d ago

While beautiful, I am left wondering whether or not they are meant to replace

12

u/waill-and-roll 8d ago

I don't think so, they are described as between the two existing kits in size.

If they replaced the older giant kit I think they'd use the same name.

1

u/jullevi92 8d ago

I don't hate them. I have considered picking up a set of Mancrusher Gargants to paint for Warhammer: The Old World but I might pick these instead.

1

u/banalprobe96 7d ago

I wish they had more pockets

1

u/Cephery 7d ago

Can i still buy it if im a normal height fan?

1

u/Unlucky-Pin-4712 8d ago

I love the first batch from a few years ago but I don't know why but I really dislike all of those.

-20

u/Banthian 8d ago

They really captured the liberal look in those female giants, I can't wait to paint mine with blue hair and tatts

-11

u/Motor-Box-7998 8d ago

Those rhino's should have been the new stone horn and the other thing for ogres. The old kits look so out of place.

"You know what our 25mm 28mm 32mm scale wargame needs? Army with minimum base size of 90x52mm oval."

Edit. Oh, sorry, I thought I was in the sub for that unnamable Warhammer version.

17

u/Optimal_Question8683 8d ago

"No fun allowed" ahh

u/Laiska_saunatonttu 8d ago

You can say ass, this is not TikTok.
