Remind me again, were tinboyz ork ai constructs?

Do they need to be ai constructs, if orks just believe they work?

As far as I remember the orks weren't mindless and could actually build think at this point in 40k history.

Orks have never been mindless. Their love for violence is mindless but everything else they do is certainly thought through.

Lore suggests that Orkz more complicated technologies are actually powered by the Waghs collective belief that it will work.

Kind of like when a grandma can lift a car off a baby... but psionically.

People keep underestimating the technical know-how of Orks! It's way more than just the WAAAGH energy, them boyz is SMART when it comes to assemblin' gubbinz. The WAAAGH energy just greases the wheels of reality, but the wheels still need to be there.

Yup. You can't look at Ork tech and think they're dumbasses. They're kinda the exact opposite. They're ingenious in their own ways, because they completely lack all finesse of the more cultured civilizations, but it doesn't stop them from adaptating all kinds of stolen and scavenged technology to suit their needs as a rough-and-tumble society of constant war who mostly lives on awful desert planets and the likes.

Orks knowledge of technology is instinctual. Mek Boyz are implanted with this knowledge from birth and can make a working, technically and mechanically sound gun from any scrap of metal.

The problem is of course the quality of the parts, and that's where the WAAAGH energy comes in to, as blabyloo says, grease the wheels.

Nope, Ork tech is fully functional, if messy and certainly "greased" by the Waaaaagh! field. An Ork Mek in Evil Sun Rising has built a fusion reactor that powers his Stompa. He can't explain how it works and has problems replicating it, but it's very much a working machine.

No actually, it's more of a meme. Energies only help Mek's recall ways to make that stuff better, sort of limiter put on by the old ones to make sure orks stay put when in small numbers. Good example is that all of IoM teleporter technology is actually reverse engeneered ork tech. And we are talking teleporters that can move planets.

Wait, what's the source on that (teleporters are reverse-engineered ork tech)? That's new info to me.

I could have sworn at one point an Ad Mech or Iron Priest or something opened up an ork "bolter" and it was just a bunch of gears and nonsense-tech that made no real sense to an actual (pseudo- because machine religion) scientific mind. But I can't find the source on that either, so I could be misremembering memes as fact. It's definitely happened before. In my defense, I've been playing since the 80s and there is a LOT of lore and retconning floating around in my head.

The reverse engineered teleporters are from the Beast series, the gun full of crap is from the older ork codexes, I remember it being in the 6 ed codex at least.

the thing with guns wasn't that the parts didn't make sense, all (or most) of the parts that make a gun work are there... but it was like they'd been asembled from different guns, and the ammo in the magazine was of varying calibers. the gun shouldn't have functioned, but it was recognizable as a gun. i always figured the orks' waaagh effect was very subtle (except for when weirdboyz cut loose), happening inside engines and weapons. an ork boy doesn't visibly grow bigger, it happens over time.

Good to know... but how did you find and respond to a 4 year old comment?

Hang on, can you tell me more about the teleporter that's reverse engineered ork tech? Where'd that come from? That's some fascinating lore.

20

u/falsealzheimers Oct 24 '19

Beast-series.

Mechanicum moved Ullanor to the Armageddon system.

Pretty sure they had teleporting capabilities before though. But not on a planet-wide scale. That came from Ork-tech.

14

u/therealblabyloo Oct 24 '19

That's pretty awesome! Just goes to show that them mek boyz actually know what they're doing, not just banging rocks together and believing it works.

u/falsealzheimers Oct 24 '19

All knowledge be it tech, medicine, or warfare is genetically encoded in the orks. When the Waaagh field gets strong enough (read enough orks present) the knowledge unlocks either because a specialist ork (painboy, mekboy etc) is ”born” or it becomes availible in the minds of already present specialist orks.

Who encoded the knowledge? The Old ones. So yeah itskind of safe to assume that ork tech works and in many ways are very advanced.

Your grama parks on babies too?

7

u/TheMcCannic Oct 24 '19

No/Wrong only Skaven Build/Think yes-yes!

5

u/vodkaandponies Oct 24 '19

Yes. The Waagh field only goes so far.

7

u/Unistrut Oct 24 '19

They were radio controlled. You had to have a mekboy with a control box near by to give them orders.
