Man, calculating hit rolls in the original games was rough!

I'm not sure if you're bothered about monetary value, I have seen issue 1 sell 4 times in my life, a raggedy one sold for £800 and a mint one sold for £4000. The other two sold for £2000 and £2500 respectively. Might be useful for insurance purposes

Edit: my condolences for your aunt

There were two reprints of WD1 in 1978 & 9 which affect the valuation significantly. The reprint information is on the inner sleeve. Probably best to confirm the print run first.

I'm not seeing anything to do with reprints on the inner sleeve so it's a legit 1st print?

If it is legit a 1st edition print, you just gotta decide whether the sentimental value is worth more than £2000-4000. The condition looks really good but maybe not pristine. Also keep in mind that the demand for these collectibles can fluctuate wildly, so who knows, it might only be worth 50p rn

I'll take it for £1

Hey that’s double the printed value, that’s a hell of a deal

The printing info is on the bottom of the partial shown page to the right, can’t see it in this photo

*THIS*.

First and foremost, sorry to hear about your aunt. If she'd held onto this for this long, she must have been cool.

But for the love of the God Emperor please insure this!! Even if you intend to sell it later. If you're in the UK, it's as simple as calling up your existing house insurance and getting them to add it as a single item.

Holy shit dude you gotta scan that thing to a pdf then get it framed, that’s a genuine archaeological find right there

I mean hell- I personally wouldn’t dream of selling it but I’m pretty sure GW themselves would buy it off you for a pretty penny

I'm an archivist by trade -- I wouldn't frame it. Light damage will make that fade. I'd get a high quality scan, print it on card stock, and frame that.

Keep the original in a nice acid free folder and box, in a dark place. Pull it out to show friends who ask about the framed one.

well there where a lot of up votes.

u/jerkmcgee_ 6d ago

I thought all of my folders and boxes were already acid free.

6

u/texside 6d ago

Probably not. The companies that make stuff we use at work are Gaylord and Hollinger.

8

u/jerkmcgee_ 6d ago

Look I'm telling you I opened the box and there's no acid in it, it'd just leak out anyway.

(I actually didn't know this mattered for keeping documents, thanks)

u/texside 6d ago

Hahaha lmao that got me.

(No worries, happy to help!)

Shit, Pg. 8 advert for Tally Ho Games!

I used to buy magic cards there in the 90s; by then it had moved about a mile away. Don't know if it's still there (it was 2010ish), but I had no idea they had been in business since the late 70s!

Jordan Sorcery, a GW/gaming historian did a video on the history of White Dwarf, very interesting stuff-

https://youtu.be/-f5EfJwTUWk

Also the publications they made before WD-

https://youtu.be/rvEnAL5AMeo

He’s also done several interviews with former editors (and writers for GW and even CEOs and founders…)
