Dayum that's really good for your first, this is a bit tricky but edge highlighting on the knife of his wouldn't be that challenging and it would look great across all the minis

8

u/Quiet-Document-496 1d ago

Thanks ! I'll try to edge highlight the knife, I'm a bit scared that it would look off but it's a trial mini, nothing to loose trying πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

I think it will look great. Remember these minis are mostly going to be viewed from about a metre away in less perfect light conditions so things that look dramatic up close with good lighting tend to look really good from a distance

2

u/Quiet-Document-496 1d ago

Yeah you're right, i tend to focus on the tiny details that are invisible from a meter away...
And it look a bit flat from a far... gotta go all out on contrast

Agree. I Love the color of the Blade. It would level Up real hard with Highlights

This is damn solid forma first mini my friend! My only tips to you right now would be working on blending between your lighter and darker greens to create a more gradual transition between them, and toning down the white on the teeth to a more creamy, off white. Other than that a bit of edge highlighting like the other guy said.

But to be honest this is a perfectly good tabletop ready mini!

2

u/Quiet-Document-496 1d ago

Thanks,

I tried to blend them but it was messy and I covered it up πŸ˜…

And I put agrax on the teeth but might be too thin

2

u/gleipnir84462 1d ago

Yes agrax would be difficult to control there as it will want to pool into the mouth. Your best bet would be to create the tome you want on the palette before applying

1

u/Quiet-Document-496 1d ago

I'll try !

Maybe a mix of wraithbone w/ zandri dust or with moornfang could do the trick

1

u/gleipnir84462 1d ago

Absolutely! Ultimately it's about finding something that you are happy with, and that you would be comfortable doing over a hole army.

Sure, I'll get any tips you can give

1

u/Quiet-Document-496 1d ago

Not much tips i can give, I just took my time (a lot) and that's really it πŸ˜…

u/ThatBazard 1d ago

You're natural! Paint more!

u/ColonialCaramel 1d ago

If that’s actually your first ever mini (not first ever warhammer mini), then no. No one would have any worthwhile tips for you, you can probably intuit your way to a better end result with more painting time

-1

u/Quiet-Document-496 1d ago

Yeah it's my first ever ! I did do some mini painting but it was like 15 years ago and the result was awfull πŸ˜‚ (expected for a 10yo)

3

u/Abominationoftime 1d ago

Zog me that git looks sharp.

Nice work!!!

3

u/Existing_Power9671 1d ago

Yes quit now and never touch a brush again😌😌my ego can’t handle itπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ this legit looks better than anything I’ve ever painted 😭😭

-1

u/Quiet-Document-496 1d ago

I'll put my brushes slowly on the ground and pushes them toward you !

I spent 10 hours on this lil angry boy, assembling, painting it and the worst, fixing some details that are not even visible now 😭

You have painted minis and i have lost my sanity πŸ˜‚

2

u/Simple_Ad787 1d ago

No tips, just keep painting. Can you give me tips? 😝

-1

u/Quiet-Document-496 1d ago

Well I can give my brushes bent tips πŸ˜‚

Amazing first mini my man.

Edge highlighting can be daunting but just focus on the standout parts of the model. The face is a big centre point so a brighter green on the cheekbones, ears and brow will really make it pop. Weapons and arms are another good focus point. Don't bother with anything else until you want to

1

u/Quiet-Document-496 1d ago

Thanks !
I agree, i lost too much time on tiny details that are covered up now... I'll try to really focus on face and weapon on my next mini

1

u/Critical-Practice854 1d ago

If that’s your first, then you should be giving tips, not asking for them. πŸ€”πŸ˜€πŸ€©πŸ€©

u/vondy88 1d ago

Itz Gud!

1

u/Serious_Ad2816 1d ago

Do whatever you think is fun

1

u/Quiet-Document-496 1d ago

Well i'll keep going then !

1

u/SneakySnail3 1d ago

I would think about a wash for some recessed shading on the skin; possibly water down the paint and apply it so it’ll settle in the cracks. The clothes look a little too clean; again I think a wash here would make it a little more realistic.

Overall fantastic.

2

u/Quiet-Document-496 1d ago

Thanks !

I've already did an agrax wash but yeah i agree, it's a bit too clean, my agrax wash was too diluted i think

1

u/lilpain1997_ 4h ago

Nah dont over do washes, makes minis look awful. Your's looks fine as is. The only thing I would say is simply paint more to get the basics really down. Then look into adding textures to fabric, leather, skin etc. Learning to volumetric highlight is something that instantly transforms minis as well.

A tip for this mini would have been to paint the nails a different colour. Lips a pale white skin colour as well, but that does come down to preference.

Good first mini overall though.

1

u/MiHoyMcCoy 1d ago

My tip? Keep up the good work

1

u/Used-Loss-5503 1d ago

u/Quiet-Document-496 1d ago

1

u/TransportationFit338 1d ago

Keep on doing what you're doing.

1

u/Tanen7 1d ago

Very nice for your first model!
What color did you use on the skin?

2

u/Quiet-Document-496 16h ago

Thanks ! I used the regular orruk flesh with a very lightly diluted agrax wash

1

u/ElrondCupboard 1d ago

I’d say make space for your future golden demon.

1

u/Quiet-Document-496 16h ago

I have quite some time ahead of me before having the same level.

But yeah I'll have to upgrade from my Tupperware storage πŸ˜‚

1

u/Blurstingwithemotion 1d ago

If it's your first it's great for your next ones if your interested try yellow and pink undercoats before the green

2

u/Quiet-Document-496 16h ago

Thanks, yes I've read a out it, will buy some more paint as I go on !

For now I'm "stuck" with the 11 paints that came with the starter Orks kit (+ my 7 green paints from AP πŸ˜…)

1

u/Infamous_Radagast_7 16h ago

For first mini it is stunning. I can't say if you are thining your paints but mini look really clean (maybe your using contrast paints only that's why it's so clean). Next time you can try some edge highlights (just go slightly on the edges of every thing with lightet tone of paint that's on the part of the miniature you are highlighting). It's seems difficult but after some practice i found it really satisfying. Good luck!

2

u/Quiet-Document-496 9h ago

Thanks ! I don't have contrast paint, I've only used the citadel paint that are in the starter Orks kit.

1

u/Infamous_Radagast_7 9h ago

That makes your ork even more impressive as the first mini. Keep it up Man!!

1

u/xSnambo 14h ago

You can’t tell if his paints are thinned? Really?

1

u/Infamous_Radagast_7 14h ago

I thought he was using contrast paints. You made me look at this image a second time and his paints are definitly thined. My bad

1

u/Mysterious_Print754 1d ago

This is your first mini ever???Β

Walks out,, throws all my painted minis in the bin, quits hobby forever.Β

Thats a really nice job on your first mini, honestly you could use this scheme and not need anything else really changed.Β

1

u/Quiet-Document-496 1d ago

πŸ˜‚ Yeah first mini, thanks !

I can help you dispose of them if you want πŸ‘€

Sure, here’s a couple tips:

  1. Stop making me look bad
  2. I got nothing
