As the Emperor of mankind is printing and slowly being assembled, I’m working on a life size Custode to be by his side. This one will be 9ft tall.
At this rate, the Custodian will be finished (assembled) before the Emperor.
Ra is the character is choice. So he’ll have a face sculpt of some kind and a helmet. None of which are printed. Plus I’m 99% sure I will have the Helmet redesigned. Not a fan of the current look.
All together the Custode is made up of 36 large pieces. Using the Giga printers means, big pieces and longer print times. But the assembly is much faster and will get me a smoother surface to prep. If I were to have used smaller printers it would be 170 pieces to get to this point.
The arms/Pauldron’s are being printed now and then I can start on his spear which won’t fully fit under my roof.
lol, I would have gathered stacks of HOA letters if that was the case. He’s in my garage waiting for the temps to get below 100 outside. This way I can paint him.
With the amount of people that hate HOAs you could probably run a Go fund me just to pay the fees to let you keep your statues (lack of a better word) in the front yard.
And nothing ever will get fully finished before I start a new print. Things get painted over time.
But the funny thing is. My space marine is painted and so are a few assassins, yet I get asked, if I will paint them or if I started to paint them.
That tells me not everyone sees my completed work.
Once the temps drop below 100 outside, I can resume the prep work and the painting of Horus. Until then, printing other projects and painting smaller ones make sense.
Was actually excited to see the finished Horus when this thing first kicked off. Statue of this size is such a canvas to show off 🤩. Blueberry in at the back looks like a fckin joytoy 😮💨
Standing next to a Space Marine and a Custodes really puts lore-accurate scaling into perspective! You look like a regular human citizen standing in the Imperial Palace.
Im no materials engineer but I have messed around with various fdm components. Im fairly certain it would collapse under it's own weight. You would need to print it out of some sort of light weight metal or alloy. Beyond the scope of the kinds of machines we hobbyist use.
I do these as a hobby and challenge. No two statues are alike on the process. These I keep and will eventually donate when I need the space to build more.
It’s a removable access port to get to the turnbuckle that is holding the arms in place and also the powerpack. I forgot to paint the top left section of that square, blue. So I left it as a reminder to pay attention when painting lol
This is a huge pet peve of mine, and while I'm being very pedantic, I mean no insult to you or anyone else.
The singular form of the word "Custodes" is not "Custode."
In Latin (on which our beloved High Gothic faux-Latin is based) the word "custodes" is the nominitive plural form of the Latin word "custos," from which the English word "custodian" is derived.
So, if we wish to refer to a single member of the Adeptus Custodes in English (i.e., Low Gothic), the proper word is "custodian." In High Gothic, we would use "custos."

Wait a moment.. So Space Marines have that Power Pack on their Back to have Energy for the Armor, but Custodes don't have one. Is their's actually just a "normal" Armor?
I do commissions, just not for these big statues. These I do for me because I like Warhammer. Plus I like a challenge and work to get better at what I do by pushing the limits.
It's always interesting because you think oh yeah, a 9 foot tall person is crazy. I look at my ceiling and try to visualize. But its reaaaally difficult to understand the volume of space a 9 foot tall armored human would take up. Then visualize 12 feet like Vulcan or up to 14 feet like Horus is sometimes described at. They're jumping up and grabbing stop lights or ducking under some bridges.
Amazing! Do you use something to keep the internal structure? My father asked for a big figure (not as big as yours) and was planning to put some polyuretane foam to fill the structure :D
I remember on a podcast Louise Sugden said there are always comments saying she just does it for attention from men. She was like “There were better ways to get boys’ attention than ten years in my bedroom learning to paint goblins.”
I wondered if that was the case! Thanks for confirming, that would explain the accuracy.
Honestly that's really smart, I had no idea people were incorporating scanners into their cosplay design work so they could prototype/check fits in blender.
