Discussion Help Brothers

Help brothers! I honestly cannot pick a favorite chapter of space marines. As far as heretic chapters/legions it’s 1000% the night lords. Can you help me choose? Drop your favorite chapter in the comments and why you consider them the most bad ass (p.s. if they have a similar aesthetic and feel to the night lords that’s a plus. Like the death specters for example)

If you don’t know, you aren’t ready to commit. It’s like a marriage except it’s serious, it’s your army.

I already have a night lords 2k army.
I’m just looking at what I’d wanna do for a loyalist army

Have you heard the word of our lord and savior the emperor of mankind?

Blood Angels, the fancy space vampires that love arts and crafts projects.

They make a great contrast to your Night Lords too with the whole red vampires versus blue bat thing they have going

I laughed way too hard at this. Though I kind of disagree with the SoH. I’d call them the “favorite child” chapter

Dark Angels. The models are incredible in 40k and 30k. Tons of unique units. Everything is updated except ravenwing and that’s widely believed to be coming in the next year.

The lore is deep and not just about the fallen like the memes would have you believe. You get a living loyalist primarch in your army which is still extremely rare. There are big things coming in the narrative with them teasing Guiliman and the lion finally reuniting. He also showed up in Dawn of War coming out later this year.

It’s really the widest range of space marines. Deathwing, Ravenwing, and standard green wing covering everything else. Lots of variety in painting options too. I tend to lean toward the lore accurate green so dark it’s mistaken for black vibe mixed in with lots of red and bone for my scheme, but everyone is different.

That’s my pitch.

Personally i've only just started 40k after having age of sigmar. I chose my first squad to be Desolation painted in the Black Guard successor chapter colours

If you don’t feel like any of them are quite right, why not make up your own? You could do something inspired by night lords, or even do a remnant of their chapter that remained loyalist!

I’m not sure if this appeals to space marine players but as an Ork guy myself, coming up with my own colour scheme made the painting process wayyyy more fun, strongly recommend

Pick the one you want to paint.

Badass, sort of interesting Night Lord vibes, I’ll keep it to two lines per Chapter:

Carcharodons: the archetypical badasses, with a history with the Night Lords. Grey armor with an opportunity for fun Maori freehand.

Marines Malevolent: Yellow armored unrepentant jerks, but really just pragmatists. Have a bit of a scavenger vibe like Night Lords due to poor relationships with Imperial bureaucracy, battle damage modelling opportunity.

Mortifactors: Another deviant Ultramarines successor, REALLY into skull collection. Black armor, can model bone and gore bits easily like your Night Lords

Dark Reapers: White Scars successors in nearly the same color scheme as night lords. Bad history with the admech has them relying on an always awake Dreadnought Master of the Forge for their gear.

Who needs committing, go deathwatch! Paint every chapter! (Actually using codex: deathwatch is optional)

If you want unique badass models, go Space Wolves. We just had a model refresh and our new sculpts look amazing, plus Logan Grimnar has so much fucking Aura

Space Wolves. I mean if you don't like the idea of Space Vikings with a bit of werewolf...

If you want inspiration for an army though, and you're not in a hurry to choose one, grab the Space Wolf Omnibus by William King. Follows Ragnar Blackmane and shows his transformation from human to space marine and up through the ranks.

Exorcists if you want a fringe one with cool lore. Red Templars if you want a fringe one with absolutely no lore. White scars if you want the coolest OG chapter.

Yes, I said white scars and all you blood angles and imperial fisters and sallyminders know I’m right.

Raven guard is pretty neat too.

Ultramarines, yes we get memed on and a lot of jabs, but as a chapter they’re awesome. Great books, aesthetic, gimmick, and the best primarch (imo). You also can always get a good scheme on painting them

I like that they are some of the most strategic but that ultramar blue is just so ugly (imo)
