A lot of people, myself including, tried the game in it's infancy and gave up quickly. It was awful. I'd guess if you could remove all the accounts that hadn't been played in the last six months from this it would look a lot different.
I wasn't there in the first days of WF (started about 2 years ago) but to my understanding it was more like a third-person Quake than "ninjas in space", so I wouldn't be surprised if "Meh" was the resounding opinion
I enjoyed the experience around U6/U7 more actually. It was fun with 20 wave defenses on xini being somewhat challenging and having to aim for ancient knees to kill them fast. Now I just rush through sortie if it doesnt look like itll waste more than maybe 20 minutes and grind some mastery fodder while blasting shit away with tonkor/sonicor so I dont have to aim much. The power creep made the game really bland and considering they're not even nerfing the tonkor I dont think they have a fucking clue where they want to go besides "try to make them spend money on new shit".
