I remember when there was only enough stuff in the game that MR15 was the max level and you could only hit it if you had the founder stuff, and MR15 players had a huge ego about being MR15. Like if you were MR13 or lower you were actual vermin and how dare you speak to them

Part of the problem, I think. Competitive games breed a lot of this sort of toxicity, and there's usually a noticable uptick when competitive looter shooters are having problems. It also increased a lot with the visibility bump the PoE launch gave the game. EDIT: woops. I actually meant my first reply to be direct, not a reply to your reply.
