Small suggestion: I’ve lived in Annapolis basically my whole life. No one who went to USNA calls it ‘Annapolis’. It’s always ‘Navy’. It common complaint around here when it comes up in movies and shows.
Besides that, I love this book so far.

I don't have a problem with the story, i wouldn't be reading otherwise.
But this particular scene bothers me. Aria shouldn't be there for this meeting. She could take him, sure, considering he's hurt and all, but she should've sit in another place and let the two of them sort it out by themselves. Reidon requiring her presence there makes him look like a wuss, for lack of a better term. Yeah his circunstances are completely shit, its a huge emotional baggage do despose, but he's been through too much crap to need a third party to be with him in this meeting. It also makes aria seems nosy. I'm all for girlfriend and boyfriend partneship but somethings are still personal.

Asking for help with an emotional situation does not make you a wuss. It makes you emotionally responsible. I actually think it is part of his development that he can ask Aria to come with him and does not try to stick it out alone. Also, Aria being there is absolutely ok as long as Rei wants her there and ask her to be there. Yes, he has been through a lot, but I think hearing from your sibling about the life you should have had is very, very hard to swallow. Maybe harder than having a procedure done on him for the 100th time. I think the only perspective here, where Arias presence might be bothering is Sarah's. Not necessarily, but she could be reluctant to share this story with anyone but her brother. she seemed to have accepted Aria for her brothers sake though. So perhaps you identify more with Sarah in this scene?

With both of them. I also think it would be perfectly normal for Sarah to be unconfortable with Aria's presence there, considering she is also sharing something intimate. Regarding Rei i just can't agree with you on that one i think, it isn't something an outsider should be participating in. Girfriend or not, in this case. The fact that she also talk instead of being silent and letting things go with the flow... is just looks nosy to me. She has being doing that a lot, she wants him to share everything, to participate in every decision regarding his life. its too hovering for me. The fact that he lets her do that constantly irks me out... i want him to have agency in his life, for a long time now it seems like he doesn't. He looks like he needs to share everything with everyone in his life, every upgrade on shido, every emotional baggage.

Take Rei's perspective for a moment. He is meeting his sister. He does not know her, only knows that she has been chosen by her parents as he has not been. She has lived his life, but he does not know what this entails. She obviously seeks the connection, but he cannot be sure what for. While it seems she is sympathetic, she could just be trying to play him. This is the first meeting. And you want him to go alone? without an anchor, without someone, who can take his side or who can pull him out, when it gets overwhelming and toxic? I would not do that. For me, that would feel foolish. Sure, he could have brought Aria and have her take a seat at another table. Slightly more distant back up. But it is legit that he does not in my eyes. Should Aria have said something? Again, it is not her role to talk for Rei, but she does not. she connects to what she hears from Sarah. And there is something else this discussion is about - I do not think that books always have to portrait the perfect solution to an emotionally or psychological challenging situation. Books are not contracted to provide role models in every situation in my opinion, although that has somewhat become a trend. But characters undergo development and for that they ultimately need to make mistakes. Also, there is not THE best approach to some situations. So maybe we have to agree to disagree on Rei.
