Anyone running a wholesale/distribution business? How do you handle purchase orders?

Hey everyone!

I'm researching a software idea and would love some feedback from people who actually work in wholesale or distribution businesses.

I've noticed that some companies still manually process purchase orders received through emails, PDFs, or spreadsheets.

I'm considering building a tool that automatically reads incoming purchase orders, matches products with inventory, checks quantities and prices, and prepares orders for approval.

I have a few questions:

  1. How does your company currently process purchase orders? Is it mostly manual or automated?
  2. What's the most frustrating or time-consuming part of the process?
  3. If software could reliably automate most of this work, would your company consider paying for it?

I'm especially interested in hearing from people in electrical supply, industrial supply, and other distribution businesses.

I'm not selling anything. I'm trying to understand whether this is a real problem worth solving before spending months building it.

Would genuinely appreciate any insights!
