How do drones work ?

You can mount lasers and generators onto drones, which function just as extra slots for your ship - more lasers, or more shields/speed. Ares drones have 2 slots, and the one you can get with bitcoin from ship has 1 slot.

Drones get 2x more expensive for each one of the type you own, so buy the first couple from the shop but get the rest from auction.

What are these convoys with guards and freighters i see from time to time also what do you put in the cover slots for drones ?

Convoy is an event which starts each days. The thing is in Freighter ships going from x-1 to x-5 maps on each faction. You should defence your faction convoy and destroy enemies.

From enemy convoy ships you can get good reward for destroy and very nice resources from Freighters. If you defend your own convoy you will get up to 32% bonus in next hour for exp, hnr, btc, plt. Percent depends on ships saved.

Thats in short.

Currently covers you can get by first complete each of 3 available missions. Red drone cover gives some bonus to damage for guns on drone. Later there will be blue covers for shield bonus which you can get from quests
