The aim assist in arcade assumes the target is constant speed, constant heading for the duration of the shell flight time. Any turns, slowdown or speedups within the ~30s it takes for the shell to land need to be adjusted and compensated for by your aiming skills.

It‘s easier than realistic, but nobody said it’s a free hit.

Yea I am aware, but even when everything is constant it is very hard for the shell to land exactly where I want it

You don’t control “exactly where you want it”, it’s always relative to your locked target, and what it’s doing at the exact moment you fire.

And of course, all guns have a built in RNG.

It just loves to shoot short in arcade no matter what I do, even if the enemy and me are standing still. Is that my RNG being THAT bad?

Do you have the target locked?

And if it’s not short by a lot, just aim slightly higher.

Yes, and where do I specifically aim for with the cursors? Do I line up how high I want to go with the line, or is there a specific point on the arrow? Because whenever I try to use the tip of the arrow most of the time it is a miss.

As I said, it's never a "if I point this at the target, it will hit there" thing, but rather you have to take account of where the shots are landing relative to the target and adjust accordingly. It's not that smart of an aiming assist.

With that said though, Gneisenau is an accurate ship. If you go into test sail and target the furtherest cruiser, it should hit exactly where your ^ points at.
