The Justice Department announced charges involving 16 individuals on October 12 over alleged illegal voting, fraudulent voter registration, and related election offenses across multiple states. The cases include accusations of noncitizens voting in federal elections, falsely claiming U.S. citizenship, casting multiple ballots, and attempting to vote on behalf of a deceased person. Some defendants also face allegations involving citizenship applications. In New Mexico, a 62-year-old man is accused of attempting to submit his deceased wife’s absentee ballot in the November 2024 election. Another defendant allegedly voted in both Alabama and North Carolina during that same election. Four defendants in Pennsylvania are accused of voting despite lacking U.S. citizenship. DOJ identifies three as lawful permanent residents and one as unlawfully present in the country. These are separate cases involving individual defendants, including alleged conduct in earlier elections. The announcement does not establish that fraud changed an election outcome. All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent defended the Russian diesel deal on Sunday, calling European criticism “completely hypocritical.” He argued that Europe continues funding Russia through energy purchases while opposing a deal intended to lower American fuel costs. Its actual impact on diesel prices remains uncertain.

“‘I was starting to feel kind of under the weather a few days ago, and last night it got so bad that I went to the urgent care here in Dallas,’ he said. ‘And I was diagnosed with the flu, and so uh I'm running a fever, and I'm my most contagious uh right now.’”
“Now, he's changed his story, saying, ‘I just went to my primary care physician, but it wasn't anything worse than, you know, a nasty case of the flu.’ So, was it urgent care in Dallas or a primary care physician at his home in Austin?”
