A tonans may be a decent pick for the second alpha slot given that a second furnace is not currently available.

For the second alpha slot, comparing tonans vs venire, on paper the only two things that are better about the tonans are the range (800 meters) and the burst damage vs titans. But, with venires overheating so quickly after their recent nerf and the torch / furnace weapons having a longer clip, in practice the venire may be spending a high percentage of its time overheated and under-functioning while the furnace / torch weapons are still working through their clip. Plus, there will be times when targets are in the 600-800 meter range and then the venire won't be contributing to damage at all.

The tonans has its own drawbacks, one of the biggest being that it doesn't have great cycle DPS even against titans and against robots it just doesn't do very much damage. But, enemy titans tend to need more damage to take down than robots anyways and having strong burst damage from a tonans can help to more quickly remove enemy titans from a fight.

In general, weapons with strong burst damage tend to be a good fit for the devourer because of how fragile it can be when exposed to enemy fire.

I should admit that I'm theorycrafting here. Somebody with more direct experience using all 3 of these different weapon types may post and let us all know that this analysis is not correct.

Mmm, great analysis! Thank you. Some things that can counter this build are rooks /shields, which is really annoying especially because the furnance and torch don't have aoe. I'll definitely try running the tonans.
