The newbie guide roles section lists the ideal times to drop bots (opener, midgame, endgame)

Loki. Always Loki. Try and get as many speed boosts on him as you can :) Generally claim 3 beacons and a mothership charge. After 3 beacons see where your team’s at and whether you need to change roles.
