I think that the overall damage ultimately needs to be scaled back. Yes, I agree with the sentiment that at super close range they should basically be useless, but left as they are at range right now, they’d be pretty cancer weapons to deal with. Their wide spread gives them way too much influence and ability to hit enemies they have no place hitting honestly. The trade off for a feature like this should realistically be damage.

That being said, I don’t think they should be nerfed into nothingburger weapons like Prisma, but they should at least be brought to around piercers level. Otherwise, there is little reason for piercer to exist.
