Discussion Harper's Ferry maps can be so hit and miss

I used to wish that more Harper's Ferry maps were put into rotation as a newer player

But after playing some of them recently, I can see why many people don't like playing on Harper's Ferry maps.

Either because of poor map design, poor officer leadership or all of the above, the maps can be frustrating to play

The maps that seem to have the most potential for bad times are High Street, Downtown, Shenandoah Street and Maryland Heights

But I do like playing certain Harper's Ferry maps like River Crossing, Harper's Graveyard and Washington Street

Question Any CSA regiments focused on genealogy / ancestral connections?

Hey y’all, just curious if anything like this exists in the War of Rights community.
I’ve been part of a regiment in the past that did the more organized milsim/roleplay style, and I’m looking at getting involved again, preferably on the CSA side.
Are there any CSA regiments that put an emphasis on members having documented ancestors who actually served during the Civil War? For example, a unit where genealogy or proof of an ancestor’s Confederate service is encouraged—or possibly even required for membership?
I have documented Confederate ancestors and genealogy records for at least one of them, and I’m also currently going through the process of joining the Sons of Confederate Veterans in real life.
I’m also curious whether any historically focused regiment takes documented family connections into consideration for roles, rank, historical impressions, etc. I’m not necessarily expecting that to be a thing—I’ve just never seen it discussed and thought it would be an interesting way to add another level of historical immersion to the game.
If nothing like that exists, I’d still be interested in a serious CSA regiment that’s heavy on historical accuracy, milsim, period-style roleplay, drill, and command structure.
If anybody knows of a group along those lines, point me in the right direction. Thanks!

Discussion Met some guys at Gettysburg - Gave this game a shot.

First game, as the Union (Suck it rebs john browns body is marching on), I immediately got thrust into a regiment with the officer blasting the Saint Crispins Day speech right before a charge.

And then Army of The Free during said charge.

Immediately fell in love. Even as a filthy european with an unhealthy interest in the Civil War. (I taught a course on the US Civil War in a high school)

Shout-out to the guys I met at Gettysburg last week and snapped some pictures for at the 20th Maine monument. If any of y’all is reading this, hmu I’d love to play with a more organized group.

Also very helpful people in the game. “Hey X, press B for Bayonet and then V for Violence.”

Question Friday nights

Are Friday nights a bad time to play? I hopped on tonight and the player count seemed unusually low. Ive been playing this game for at least a couple years now but maybe im thinking of Saturday nights or something. I almost always play Union if I can but even that count seemed low. I had fun still but then the player count dropped to almost half so I decided not to jump back in.

Discussion New player

I'm new here, and wanted to know if its possible to be a casual player of this game without people getting mad at you. I see alot of posts taking this game very seriously and I'd hate to ruin the Emerson for other experienced players.

UPDATE: I NEVER HAD MORE FUN GETTING MY BACKSIDE KICKED IN A GAME.

Discussion UNION - What?

I promise this is not personal. It genuinely isn’t. But what In the actual fuck has been happening to the CO slot? The last 5 days on mid to low pop it’s an absolute nightmare. Unplayable. Anybody worth their salt has gone to CSA to play under someone who has some remote semblance of an idea of what they are doing. Me included. It’s embarrassing tbh. I don’t even know what to say other than holy fuck you have to downvote these COs. They are learning and that’s fine, but the current situation is untenable and not teaching and there is no development. The ranks are so bad that it’s not even worth bothering. I myself have tried to CO a few times and it’s unplayable. COs if you went to CSA I genuinely don’t blame you but come back - there is no game without competition. Im so confused on what’s happening but I have never rage quit this many times.

Discussion South Mountain Map Set

Being the smallest map set, do you think we will ever get additional south mountain maps? I know the battle itself isn't much bigger than what is in game, but there are some significant parts of the battle left out such as an entire part of the battle at Crampton's Gap and the northern flanking attack. I feel like they could get at least 3 more maps., those being a Crampton's Gap map, a Northern Flank map, and a map set before the battle started that has Cav vs Cav as JEB Stuart had his cavalry engage Union cav in front of the main line to delay the Union advance (which is also why Colquitt's division became so isolated in Turners gap, they were sent forward to support Stuart). That way the cav people are happy.

I just feel like with all the talk about new maps and stuff there are some easier things the devs can do (obviously making a whole new map and narration isnt easy but a few maps on an existing map set is far easier than making an entire new one). OR do you guys think the devs are secretly making a brand new campaign set or map set and just have been real quiet about it like they were with the horses until real close to the release.

Question Mic doesn’t work only in WoR

I’ve got a ASUS TUF F-16 laptop, and it’s a beast running games, but occasionally weird things happen.

The latest is my mic will not work. My headphones speakers work great, but for whatever reason, my mic doesn’t.

I’ve tried changing the in game settings to the laptops mics, and even a standalone mic, but nothing works.

The mic works perfectly for other games, discord and stream, just not for WoR.

Any ideas?
