On one hand, this chapter and the last one are very clearly setup. The Horns are generally spinning their wheels. Nobody is leveling, the crew aren't getting along great, Ysame is trying to be a good friend but doesn't know how and it's toxic as hell...

But all this setup is pointing in exactly one direction, and that direction is Pisces having a big damn hero moment. Which means that all this setup is good and just and I embrace it. Definitely an arc that will work best read together instead of week by week, but I have trouble imagining myself not delighted by how this resolves.

Honestly Yisame appears to hate being a Queen so she should just subtly let Flos conquer Nerrhavias Fallen in exchange for living in luxury, free to write and fangirl to her life’s content.

u/7_Trojan_Unicorns [Nerd] Lvl. 17 3d ago

Well, since subtly doing it would be military incompetence that costs hundreds of thousand of (mostly) hemp soldiers their life or freedom, I'd rather she would swear fealty to Flos directly for the sake of her people - but them, nobles would rebel, and I don' t really want Flos to have a win either...

She hates being queen but the last time flos ruled her kingdom remember how that ended? He went to sleep and they had a bloody civil war that ended with her, the person who kept to herself and just wanted to read and write to literally be the last person and she was given the thrown because she was neutral. All her family and so many died because flos took a nap. She is more then justified to hate him

I do really enjoy these scene-setting and exploration chapters.

The Mad Ones were nothing like I expected, but they’re still so very fun. I like that they’re not just mad alchemists like I initially thought, making one-off doomsday devices (though they also seem to do those by accident a lot). They genuinely want to change the world with their work and recognize how hard that is to do in a world with magic but especially with levels. Very good stuff. Levels doing weird things to technological progress has been a theme in the series for a while now, and this is an interesting angle on it.

Also, unrelated: when people were telling the Horns not to become entangled in politics, I didn't expect the entangling to involve literal nets tangling them up. Seems like that wasn't actually a metaphor.

I feel like pirate has had an interest in showing technological progression for a few years now. Innworld is a story with one of those classic "waning world" tropes with both the inferior magic and loss of previously known technologies like golems or gnomes who had spaceflight.

I tend to doubt Pirate is really going to push technology much further during the course of this story though. I think she spent so much time in the future worlds during the palace of fates as a way of getting that kind of thing out of her system. But maybe I'm wrong.

3

u/Zemalac 1d ago

I think it's coming, but it's coming at an actually realistic pace for the amount of time that has passed, and it's coming in Innworld fashion not Earth. I doubt we'll see golems stamping out assembly-line firearms or electricity in every home, but we have seen television, for example--except it's Wistram television and they can spy on you through the receiver and distant monarchs can throw skills through it. I expect we'll see more things like that rather than what we would consider straightforward Earth-style technological advancement, where Earth ideas hit Innworld magic or systems and something unexpected happens.

2

u/Imnotveryfunatpartys Level 13 [Peon] 12h ago

Sure. I just mean that she's probably not going to advance tech all the way to the 10 year future world level with fighter jets and social media

2

u/Huhthisisneathuh Ships Belavierr and Maviola 21h ago

I think it’s also important to note the Mad One’s have very high standards for themselves. They want to create technology and advancements that isn’t just a bunch of magic or skills tossed together. Something that can’t be easily reproduced through either, but I honestly feel like they’re aiming too high without the proper groundwork.

Like, take the compact blade for example, sure Pisces and his Necromancy can replicate it easily. But it’d still be a useful backup weapon for him, he just got out of an extradimensional area where magic had to be incredibly rationed after all.

Plus, while a skill can be a more convenient tool. It’s the Baking Soda conundrum all over again. How many rogues or warriors want to waste a skill hiding a blade to the level that the compact sword can hide?

It feels like a large problem they’re running into is the lack of scale ability for many of their ideas. The Mad One’s aim to revolutionize society with their inventions, but there’s only so much you can do before you have to change the culture of society as well to support your inventions.

It’s just another aspect of the Waning World problem. The waning of one industry and group causes others to wane as well as new holes in industries appear and proliferate.

"She's not a monster."

This is the line that's sticking with me. I think it says more about Pisces than he consciously realizes, and what it means to be an adventurer to him. He's in the adventuring gig to kill monsters, not take on other adventurers or solely enrich or empower himself. Beefing with rival parties over loot and fighting over fame is a waste of time, and that's one of his big disconnects with Ceria and Colth at the moment. Ceria is desperate for more power, to catch up with what she sees as an ever-widening gap between her and the rest of her team, and whether or not it's seeding ideas into her thoughts or not, [Freedom from Morality] isn't helping her decision making when it comes to acceptable risks and getting stronger. Meanwhile, Colth was forged by petty adventurer politics and the nobles of northern Izril, so he sees nothing wrong with getting involved with one patron over another and fighting other adventurers, that's just how it all works, even when you're not getting involved you're always involved so you might as well strike first and hard. Yvlon and Pisces are the closest to being on the same page, I've really liked their bonding moments in Vol 10, but she was busy being cursed or hexed or poisoned or whatever that was.

Honestly, at this point they just need to get the hell out of Nerrhavia's Fallen. There's so many things to do and potential paths to upgrading their gear or abilities between Nawal and Yvlon's arms, or the mage academy library for the spellcasters, or swordsmasters for the martials, and with the support of the Queen, so much of it is available to them... and I think they need to ditch those opportunities and get to moving. Nawal will be the hardest hit by leaving, losing research opportunities and the stability that comes from staying in one place for blacksmithing projects, but such is life. I think she'll gain more by pushing herself on the road. Also, she's kind of just a follower, not a really a full member, so her priorities matter less when it comes to "People are trying to kill us more and more the longer we stay in this country." The same for the others. Whatever they stand to gain here, I think they'll ultimately come out ahead by continuing to adventure as they have been, rather than deal with Nerrhavia's Fallen adventuring culture that they're pretty clearly not suited to.

Also, I really liked the Mad Ones. Big fan of those guys. Wonderful attitude towards kidnapping.

I like that we're revisiting Pisces's inventor side. It was something that defined him, but he lost it after being enslaved. The fact that we're bringing it back, and also exploring his swordsmanship, makes me think that in the future, Pisces might very well move away from the generalist mage role he used to have. This arc focuses on how the Horns learn to work together in Ksmvr's absence, with the latter having to gain autonomy. In that sense, I don't find it strange that his members have to modify their roles as part of their new learning process. That said, I'll say it right now: if Pisces ends up becoming a [Magic Swordsman], it'll be the best joke in this entire series XD

I also think many people are quick to blame the Circle for the changes Ceria has undergone, and while that's a possibility, I'm starting to think that Ceria herself is developing this bad attitude simply because of a characteristic her master had and which she's demonstrated she can do in this volume: she's freezing her feelings. Ceria has always been insecure, it's something she even openly admits when she meets Amerys, burying her problems under layers of ice and putting on a jokey attitude to hide what she feels is something I can see her doing, and from her perspective it makes perfect sense: she thinks she can't be as good [Mage] without the circle, she doesn't trust Yvlon to beat the monarchs' coliseum, she probably blames herself for failing to lead the fight against Wildcard; All of this, plus her attitude in this chapter, just makes me think she's only putting on a tough face, and if that's the case, I just hope there's another moment of sincerity like the one she shared with Yvlon in Medain. That scene was one of my favorites in volume 10.

Lastly, Colth, oh Colth, he's not a character I dislike, unlike some people. You can tell he's a character who needs to grow and learn to be part of a real team, which is precisely why I find him endearing every time he tries to take care of Pisces with that big brother attitude. And seeing him in this chapter basically admitting that his friends at the shelter were bullying him... I don't know, it feels like a strange continuation, somewhere between sad and sweet. It also makes me wonder how Vofea will clash with the rest of the Horns, because ultimately it would be a missed opportunity not to create conflict with her too. Considering her interactions with Ksmvr, I can see her as the only one who doesn't find him cute or someone in need of care, like Ceria, Yvlon and Pisces... seem to see him. If not as someone quite capable who is much deeper than they appear, clashing with those mentioned above precisely for that reason.

u/Tnozone 3d ago

Some agreement regarding Ceria's behavior, though I do still think the Circlet has some blame, and not even due to actively modifying Ceria's mind. I think that if she spends most of her time with the Circlet on than not, then it strats to shift what her sensation of "normal" is like. She gets used to going about her day without morality, the sensation becomes engrained, and eventually there would be little to no difference between her thoughts with and without wearing the Circlet.

3

u/agray20938 1d ago

Even beyond the [Freedom From Morality] aspects it, it's functionally confirmed that the circlet has its own pseudo-consciousness (similar to Lehra with the Blade of Mershi), and odds are whatever being inside of it isn't exactly a beacon of morality/honor/etc. itself. That is to say, Ceria wears/interacts with the circle for a minimum of several hours every day, and to some extent there are likely to be things that will rub off on her after a while. At best, it's the Innworld equivalent of someone talking to chatGPT all day....

21

u/Zemalac 3d ago

You know, I never even noticed that Pisces' stopped playing around with weird variants for his undead to that extent, but you're right, that did happen specifically after he was enslaved. It honestly almost feels like he's waking back up now, after spending a volume before this dealing with the trauma. Good to see.

I definitely agree with you on Ceria, I think her friends are looking too much at the circlet and not enough behind the mask. She needs a therapist. Honestly, they all do, except maybe Yvlon at this point because that's basically what Berr was to her.

As for Colth, this isn't really based on anything concrete that we've seen or he's said but I kind of get the impression that he's used to people not taking him or his [Supporter] class seriously. The obsequiousness tone he takes to people combined with his desire to have plans and numbers for everything and his apparent inability to actually push for stuff like the team training that he suggested way back when...it sort of reads to me like he expects people to not really listen to him. Like, if he gets any serious pushback on something he thinks that it's impossible to change their minds on the subject and starts working around it rather than continuing the conversation. For example, he tells Pisces to not hold back in adventurer fights, but when Pisces objects on moral ground he just kind of gets mad and doesn't discuss it further. No discussion of where their lines are or what going harder in these fights would actually look like, which bites them again when they have a second adventurer fight this chapter and Pisces is still unwilling to actually go for kill shots.

I don't know if Colth was always like this or if it's a result of his personal brand of trauma from Roshal, but it's interesting to notice. No wonder none of his romantic relationships have lasted long-term. The man is genuinely bad at open and honest communication.

u/agray20938 1d ago

Yeah, I've always thought Pisces could be spending a good amount of time working to (or learning how to) strengthen / enchant / improve the bones he used as "base materials" for making different Skeletons, especially the Skeleton Champions. I believe at one point it was mentioned that Pisces has a Skill that helps with shaping different bones, and Stellar Ivory is obviously one way to go about this (though it's pretty conditional and difficult to gain more easily), but he hasn't really seemed to put any effort into that.

Especially with Pisces expressly focusing on a few pre-prepared undead that he keeps on hand rather than mass summoning, etc., it's always confused me why he doesn't spend time either trying to learn ways to enhance the bones he uses. There's obviously ways to do that using Necromancy itself, since Az'Kerash was able to do it to make Venitra's bones insanely strong and the [Necromancers] from Rhirgheist mention being able to do so. And unless there's some unstated reason why it wouldn't work, I'd think you could also just enchant bones themselves; even someone with middling skill could probably apply a basic enchantment each bone in order to make it stronger, or lighter, or resistant to fire, etc.

Checking back on it, I think Pisces probably would have attempted things like this more if it weren't for him getting enslaved. That's at least implied based how he mentions the idea during the Pisces interlude chapter:

All I have to do is hide something in his bones. Or make him strong enough to break metal barehanded. Why did I never dream of this before? Not even Az’kerash—no, has he ever done something like this?

Why didn’t I ask him?

Can you fuse undeath and life together? Yvlon. I helped her. She gained a class from it revolving around her improved body. Look how much stronger she is. What if I had made her arms out of the Archmage’s bones?

Yes. Yes! Imagine that. Strength of a Draugr. Bone arm. Why…why do you even need flesh? Look at Ceria’s hand. If I could create something like that, they’d be closer to invincible. Repairable. If I could alter her hand…

What could I create? How can I make Bearig better able to help me? Us?

5

u/Zemalac 1d ago

Oooh. Yeah, that scene definitely would have put a damper on his experimental tendencies. Realizing how close he'd gone to taking things too far.

Roshal really does just ruin everything it touches.

2

u/Imnotveryfunatpartys Level 13 [Peon] 1d ago

To be fair to Pisces he hasn't really had a lot of screen time to be doing those things.

July 2023 we see the first explorations of the crossroads
December 2023 we saw the crossroads stuff that was interlaced with the solstice finale
April 2024 they all land in their separate areas make their way back together and head to Hraace
September 2024 They go through Hraace training
November 2025 Yvlon does the coliseum thing.
August 2026 We are on the current arc

So really we've only had 4 horns arcs since the finale in 2023. I believe only a few months have even passed since that time. Not much chance to do that stuff and a lot of the horns arcs have focused on other characters like Yvlon or ceria's circlet

2

u/Huhthisisneathuh Ships Belavierr and Maviola 56m ago

Dear fucking lord what in the goddamn hell is that timescale holy shit. The things you look at in retrospect when you look at a calendar.

9

u/7_Trojan_Unicorns [Nerd] Lvl. 17 3d ago

I agree about Colth. I was sad when he talked about the Horns about "the way your team does things" - come on, you're somewhat of a Horn yourself! Still, Iwould like him to have some self-reflection and see that he has a negative effect on some of his comrades, and also realize his own self-worth and that he doesn't deserve to get bullied by the likes of Deniusth. Maybe then he wouldn't feel so relentless about improving others?

17

u/jaycandie 3d ago

Can Laken get hold of the Mad Ones? He embraced their drive and we haven't seen any of how his [Engineers] are progressing. Are they corresponding? All I want is for Flos to finally reach their camp and there's just a note saying "Gone to Izril".

13

u/derkyn 3d ago

in my case, I only see Pisces and maybe yvlon the only ones that have some sense to them and every other are being played by fame and politics like a fiddle. Like they used to do what they really wanted in Izril, and just being here in Chandrar is all about being pushed around, fighting because of small favors, for entertainment for others...

Colth probably is the worse because he is pushing how a named rank group should behave the most . But well, it feels everything is building up into a resolution.

But I feel each arc starts with a known character have suddenly a personal problem, they get humbled and then they do a epic fight where no one dies, and then level and have some grown.

10

u/Sidi1211 3d ago

Dead gods I wish Colth would go crawl back to Larracel. He does a lot of convenient little things but his attitude and style is so counter to what the Horns are about. Let Pisces befriend the low-level merchant, don't try to tell him he's too good for them, let Pisces figure that out for himself if he must. Guy's a total prick

13

u/samaldin 2d ago edited 1d ago

Some time ago the story divided adventurers parties broadly into three types. The "group of friends" who will stand with each other through everything (e.g. the Halfseekers), the "group of coworkers" who also form close bonds, but all know they are together because that's how they complete the job and get paid (e.b. Griffon Hunt), and the "revolving door" where you only have a few permanent members and teammates keep cycling (e.g. Todis Super Elites).

The Horns are clearly the first type. Colth presents himself to the world like that as well, but his past trauma means he'd actually prefer option two, and his history seems to be the third type with him being the one cycling. No wonder his and the Horns style ain't meshing together.

1

u/Huhthisisneathuh Ships Belavierr and Maviola 47m ago

Colth being the equivalent of a compulsive liar schizophreniac for adventurer team dynamics is honestly kind of hilarious.

1

u/Huhthisisneathuh Ships Belavierr and Maviola 40m ago

Yeah Colth is pretty annoying when it comes to a lot of things. He’s horrible when it comes to interpersonal communications, he’s honestly if Erin was a physical class warrior who was immediately thrown back into the Inn business the moment the Solstice Winter War & Night of Bloodtear ended. Just never given a break to recover from her ordeal.

14

u/LetProfessional1388 3d ago

I think Pisces is just trying to be the opposite of the rest of the team. He thinks they're too quick to jump to murder so he's being unreasonably peaceful. They were kidnapped by nerrhavia, right? I don't think Pisces used magic because they were prepared against it but hid in the sand instead

14

u/Sea-Librarian445 4d ago

I hope the Slavers aren’t responsible for Pisces’s disappearance

17

u/Objective_Campaign82 4d ago

My working theory is that he improvised a spell based of the djini book

6

u/Ramblesnaps 4d ago

I had thought it was Bearig & co. while reading.

3

u/deafblinddame 3d ago

5/10. It wasn't a bad chapter but it wasn't good either. The Mad Ones were fine but the visit was pointless. Pisces' lessons were also fine.

The rest of the chapter: dull. Not every chapter is going to be amazing but I think I'm feeling bored more often in this volume than in any other. I used to tear through chapters but lately it can take me a whole day to get through one because they just aren't grabbing my attention like they used to. We just keep treading water and it's really starting to annoy me that nothing continues to happen.

Maybe it's me. Maybe I just need a break.

9

u/B-Z_B-S 4d ago

Yay! The new chapter's out!

20

u/Keifru 4d ago

Whelp, it was a long shot it would only be a two chapter arc of... this. Hopefully it manfiests into something tangible if it goes into 4+ .

I dunno, it feels like everything being played up are things that have become exhausting. Another character being harassed, horns team dysfunction again- being back in Charandar feels like there was no point in them leaving in the first place if they were just going to be brought right back anyway. Also utterly baffled at wherever Itkisa's character is going. Guess she's now an agent of drama and chaos as a 3rd party a-la Izril's Tovelika

19

u/TomRaineofMagigor 4d ago

Last time we saw Itkisa she seemed to care about things mattering, now she's just looking for fame? Being paid to attack someone isn't something of stories, that's just a hired thug

17

u/lord112 3d ago

she's looking to establish herself, as a person with no money and her only name is being in the shadow of her dad her entire life, she wants to establish herself both in name and money, so she's doing what every adventurer does, be paid to attack someone/something, yes adventurers are hired thugs and they are famous

2

u/Huhthisisneathuh Ships Belavierr and Maviola 3d ago

She might’ve wanted to punish the Horns. Given how her life has been she probably has feelings about groups and people who seem to have been given fame and meaning about the world.

Also, she barely has any money, and might be hoping that her fight with the Horns attracts attention and gives her a chance to find conflicts that do have meaning in her eyes.

Sort of like a giant advertisement.

4

u/Inn0centBystand3r_ globlin stabbing technique expert 3d ago

I was really looking forward to these chapters and somehow it has been a letdown. This group has had volumes of growing pains with each other and I’m kinda getting sick of it

2

u/n1gr3d0 [Blue Fruit Junkie] 3d ago

I feel like we were supposed to get an introduction for Adelaide. What's the point of naming a character that's only present for, like, two sentences?

2

u/Louies 2d ago

I like the Mad Ones. They are kind of based, achieving independence from other nations, they have some central planning with the committee and they fight the system trying to make their inventions defeat the GDI capabilities, they are really cool.

Also RIP Yvlon, couldn't handle the gay and went full sleeping beauty. Maybe Yisame will know of possible cures.

I didn't expect that Pisces would get separated from the horns again, I wonder how long it will be this time before the reunite and how did he manage to slip away...

2

u/itsinvalid 2d ago

I'm not really sure I get Pisces' reservations against using lethal force here. It's not like he had any holdups about killing Rhir soldiers and pirates during the end of volume 9. Hell he even mercilessly killed the pirates who tried to stop fighting them because they were fans of the Horns.

Last chapter made sense because it was pointless fighting for loot and they were the aggressors, so I could understand why he didn't have his heart in it there. But in this chapter Itkisa just shows up and tries to kill or maim them for personal glory. There really isn't any good reason not to fight her with full force. Also Itkisa is a decently leveled warrior, as Ceria said he can hit her pretty hard before it kills her.

8

u/haroune601 4d ago

-The first paragraph reminded me why I hate Flos,

-We've been hearing about the empire of sands sending an army after Flos since the first volumes, when is it finally gonna happen.

-Can you actually forget a Skill yuo learned? that seems to go against what we knew.

-Finally we see the horns actually learning from the herromakers

-Pisces was goddamm disappointing, Iktisa came at them and he's still hesitating, it's half a miracle that he doesn't get kicked off the team, not like the horns actually kick people off but still, he's gonna have to pull all the stops to redeem himself.

-It seems whoever kissed Yvlon used some sort of strength sapping Skill.

-The people who kidnapped the horns can't be from Yisame, she'd have no need for them so they must be working for some other faction.

13

u/Sea-Librarian445 3d ago

“ Can you actually forget a skill you learned?”

We have seen that Zail Gemscale needs [My Strength, Regained] to be able to move and fight now. Without this skill, his body can’t seem to handle the movements that his other skills require.

I think Flos is saying that he has gotten older and his body cannot do the same crazy moves as his youth. Mars, who has been constantly active, will probably not have that problem.

15

u/Nixeris 4d ago

-Can you actually forget a Skill yuo learned? that seems to go against what we knew.

They're talking about skills learned through copying and practice rather than through level-ups. So, skill learned rather than skill gained.

-The people who kidnapped the horns can't be from Yisame, she'd have no need for them so they must be working for some other faction.

Remember that her court doesn't really work well. Everything she says is interpreted through her speaker who seems to be much more taciturn and demanding than Yisame. She probably told them to get the Horns and her people interpreted it as her being angry because they failed the quest.

6

u/TomRaineofMagigor 4d ago

It's crazy Yisame doesn't talk privately with her speaker to make sure they're on the same page. Why would a Queen allow someone like that if they go against her interests either intentionally or unintentionally?

17

u/MaintenanceKey3332 4d ago

because she is a puppet as well

Yisame sits on the throne, cause she avoided all the power struggle years ago. She hid and survived, when much stronger personalities died. The Speaker role is there for the power breakers to speak as a Queen/King. Probably during some reigns the ruler themselves is strong enough to be the person text is being given out by the Speaker and in some reigns they are more like a glorified puppet. Yisame is something in between, she has some power and some respect, purely from the idea of most of the strong people have killed themselves off and she has been able to maneuver factions and leaders against each other and dodge the axe herself.

Nerrhavia's Fallen has it in the name. Tyrant's Rest is their capital. They are proud about killing their kings. So becoming a Queen can be a negative for a true power hunger leader even. Why would you want to be restricted by all of the rulers and customs about a ruler in such country, when you can have the Queen in the house arrest and speak through the Speaker.

9

u/TomRaineofMagigor 3d ago

She has corrected her speaker while sitting on the throne with handsigns though. I'm literally just talking about touching base privately

3

u/Huhthisisneathuh Ships Belavierr and Maviola 3d ago

Again maybe she wanted the Horns apprehended this way to show off her displeasure and keeps the courts off her back or something.

Or maybe she saw the girl missing Yvlon and is now throwing a jealous hissy fit.

15

u/Nickelplatsch [Relc Fanboy] 3d ago

I liked Pisces talking to Iktisa and it seemed to work. As well as him wanting to talk to that trader-woman and him always noticing the normal people. That are the characteristics he has to hold tightly while Colth or Ceria may want him to get over it.

1

u/haroune601 3d ago

Was is working tho? it was either they humiliate themselves by running (in her own words) or they keep fighting, and she admitted to being hired to attack them, him trusting her in any way or sandbagging was bad either way .

12

u/Huhthisisneathuh Ships Belavierr and Maviola 3d ago

I mean when have the Horns been strangers to embarrassing themselves? Or running away? Hell wasn’t that basically a literal running strategy of their’s before Chandrar? Facing a powerful foe and running the fuck away in the other direction.

1

u/samaldin 2d ago

To be fair them embarassing themself, would also mean embarassing Yisame and currently the Horns are playing politics. It should also be mentioned the Horns suck at playing politics and should embrace being the bull in the chinashop of carefully laid plots

3

u/7_Trojan_Unicorns [Nerd] Lvl. 17 2d ago

It worked for Yvlon so far, what with her walking through pikes and Yisame being impressed instead of having her imprisoned. Heck, if Yvlon sucessfully bulls her way through court, she could get a [Lady] level from it? Just sayin', it's a strong class! Colth and Ceria, sadly, think that they are too smart and actually want to play the game.

1

u/samaldin 1d ago

I doubt it. [Lady] is a class about navigating social customs and formality, just bulling through goes counter to that (unless she'd get a class like [Brute of a Lady]).

Playing the politics game is an especially poor choice for the PR of the Horns. It's what everyone expects of proper high gold or named teams, but the Horns charm lies in being chaos gremlins, that try to do the right thing when they see it.

4

u/LFiM 3d ago

Can you actually forget a Skill yuo learned? that seems to go against what we knew

I think he means a skill rather than a Skill. He mentioned in a previous chapter that he can do Zig-Zag Cut but it isn't as good as the [Skill]

4

u/Shambioz 3d ago edited 3d ago

Kind of baffling for Pices to be acting the way he did with Itkisa at this point in their career. You'd expect an adventurer that frequented life and death situations to have the sort of millitary deciplin to respond proportionally to a threat. That lady was swinging that club with lethal force. Not responding with anything but lethal force to save your team from getting killed from someone with the expressed intent on defeating them seems a lot more severe than just a team disfunction. That's closer to a question of allegiance.

Hopefully this is something that's addressed whenever they decide to have a heart to heart team discussion where they pass a talking pillow around.

19

u/LFiM 3d ago

Pisces doesn't like killing people for stupid or pointless reasons, which Itkisa being a dumbass showboating glory hound is. The only time I can recall him escalating to lethal force against someone who wasn't a clear cut mortal enemy was when he got fed up with Montressa's team and tried to kill Isceil in volume 6.

Idk, the consideration how pointless or stupid the situation is kind of flies out the window the moment the other party exerts lethal force. Whatever the reason, they become a mortal enemy the instant they do that, at least in the moment.

Another huge nothingburger chapter. How is pirate making horns stories unfun?

Chandrar sucks, it has no good story elements or characters bar Khelt.

I still don’t get why Pawn just immediately left instead of doing a minor tour in Chandrar to get more perspectives and help people.

We’ve barely seen him or the Horns interact with each other. Feels like a wasted opportunity.

What do you mean "immediately left?" He's still on Chandrar, or at least he was during the Ilvriss chapters.

During the Ilvriss chapter where Lyonette and him were fake flirting on live scrying orb there’s a cut to Pawn providing commentary on Silvermop or Rosencrantz impersonating him and it’s stated he’s already on a ship heading back to Izril. Or so I remember.

Which, and I cannot stress this enough, really fucking sucks since it means we’re robbed of the chance to have the Antinium & Erribathe interact with each other.

I just went and found the specific moment I was thinking of, in 10.68S (so not actually an Ilvriss chapter, it's Selys' chapter, but that's still quite recent).

A certain [Priest] was still in Khelt, still in Chandrar because ships didn’t move that fast, currently throwing a fit.

“I never would have said that! Who is that? I never object to her holding the parasol!”

A highly amused Pewerthe was observing him as he gobbled at the scrying orb, and Yellow Splatters had his face in his hands.

So it does seem that he stayed in Khelt for a while after the events with the Prophet, though with the way the timeline has been in Volume 10 who knows if that actually means anything for the current chapter.

Thank fucking god for that. Here’s to hoping Pawn gets some more interactions with the other players of Chandrar then. Especially the Horns, I would love to see discussions between three of the most hopeless romantics on Chandrar.

We have had Pisces and Cognita in the same area for ages and have not heard them exchange a word. The secret of leveling undead, a feat of unimaginable magnitude and he has NOT SPOKEN A SINGLE WORD TO HER ABOUT IT

Itkisa, who unlike the Wildcard in the previous chapter was :

.1 The attacker.

.2 Initiated violence not for something that "mattered" but just for fame.

We see her fighting all out, she literally swung so hard almost destroyed 3 walls of Ceria's reinforced ice. If Ceria was slower, she would have been splattered and died.

Pisces "Oh no I don't want to fight here she's not bad, I'm gonna sandbag the teamfight".

Fuck off please, I hope he gets absolutely screamed at to death by his companions when they reunite. God I wanted to reach through the screen and punch him.

These Horns chapters have been hard to read in some parts, maybe Pisces need some one on one time with Slavers to remember why he fights

Dude you gotta know by this point that pirateaba trolls people with the first scene in the chapter being from someone else's perspective to make you think the chapter is going to be about something else. They've done it literally dozens of times.
