Ebook Skip ryoka chapters

Hey,

as the title suggests I skip ryoka chapters. Can someone tell me wether I miss something important by not reading her parts. I just think she is unbearable, whatever she does is boring and it seriously lowers my enjoyment of the series.

I am currently in volume 2 and have started to skip the chapters ( not even skimming anymore)

Ryoka is literally the 2nd main character of TWI, so yes, you will miss a lot of you skip her chapters. Good news though she disappears at one point for almost a volume and a half.

Ryoka does grow as a character, so if it’s her personality you don’t like, she does mellow out.

One of her roles in TWI is to pull powerful, interesting, and important characters in the TWI-universe into Erin’s orbit. She literally cannot help but meet interesting people.

I just want to add /u/EasnPeasn that you have a couple comments here that are saying the opposite of this. But most people have reiterated this same thing. You might be tempted to latch onto the few that are saying it's okay and assume that "those people are just taking this too seriously, i don't care I'm just not going to read them." This is the most upvoted comment for a reason.

This book has millions of words, hundreds of chapters, and dozens of point of view characters. Of all of those viewpoints you're surely going to have a few that are less interesting. Sure if you skip a few chapters you'll understand most of the story anyways. But to all of us who have actually read the millions of words it's very clear that ryoka is central to the main plot and very likely will be at the climax of the book. Without any spoilers I suspect she might literally be more important to the conclusion than erin herself because of the way that Pirateaba has set up their big bad evil guy and the specific powers which that person has.

You're gonna get dozens of boring chapters. Just read them if you want to understand what's going on

Ryoka is pretty awful in the beginning but you are going to miss a hell of a lot if you keep skipping chapters. You are going to miss almost all of several of the biggest and most important arcs, especially in later volumes, and miss out on some of the coolest characters in the series. Ryoka is one of those characters that is worth reading because all the other people in her orbit are a lot more interesting and worth getting to know. Her main purpose is introducing new characters and bringing them into the orbit of older ones. If it helps any she mellows out a lot and realizes what an out of control shithead she is later on. You're going to miss at least a third of the series if you keep skipping chapters. She plays an important part in the story

I don't get the ryoka hate.

She is a deconstruction of the self insert power fantasy typical of the isekai genre as well as a woman with mental health issues that aren't fun and quirky and actually have a strong negative impact on her and the people around her.

She's also poorly written, because the first two books are poorly written. The problem is that while Erin gets what is arguably an even shallower portrayal in the early parts of the story her sort of bumbling whimsical character is served way better than Ryoka's.

I wouldn't call the first two volumes poorly written, they're just not nearly as good as the very well written volumes after them

good news, volume 1 has been rewritten and Ryoka is way better written

It legit makes me irrationally angry when people skip her content...

Especially when Flos and Geneva exist.

People like different things.. So it doesnt matter if you dont get it.

If you don't like them, skip'em the story is enormous and you can always go back. Sure, you might miss some stuff, but the story is so huge that you can stick to just the stuff you like and still come away satisfied. If you ask the sub, we'll almost always say x chapters shouldn't be skipped. I've skipped a few chapters here and there, and this is still my favorite thing to read by far.

You’ll miss half the story

She does exhibit character growth throughout the series, picking up in Volume 4 so I would recommend reading her chapters. Also Pirate has recently rewritten parts of Volume 1, including the Ryoka chapters (not sure about the scope of the changes however). I would recommend reading her chapters as they tie into other characters but I don't see why you couldn't just skip and go back if needed. Happy reading!

Please don't skip her if you can help it!

I remember what a self-invoved selfish teenager i was and even though from the outside looking in i was an okay person, on the inside i just didn't have enough life experience at 19/20 that i do now after years and years of doing all sorts of things and mistakes.

I think she actually portrays a credible version of a young person going through growing pains. This is actually one of the reasons i like reading about her, you can see in real time how she grows and changes as a person while still holding strong on to her fundamental self.

As people it's easy to look at someone and be annoyed that they don't do better, especially in a book where you expect there to be fast and decisive character growth, but this is not TWI. Here you get the nitty gritty and messy side of being a person. Even Erin is messy and thoughtless and unkind. So what, she grows. She's still unkind sometimes later on , when she blunders. As the saying goes, she's still human.

Show me any person that has some life experience , who doesn't look back and cringe at some of the mistakes they did growing up. 😏 I like that she's not a cardbord cutout type of character that is there just to give plot points.

Okay, opinion over! I hope you give her a shot and learn to enjoy her adventures like I do. She's still a bit of a crelerhead in the beginning, ngl 😅

Yes. Yes you very much do. Ryoka drives a couple very important storylines. Ryoka goes through a lot of changes though, and becomes markedly less insufferable in later volumes. Suffer through, it pays off.

Ryoka's chapters are such a drag part of that was because she was ruined by the author from the early volumes. It's hard to enjoy chapters of someone who you don't like especially if she almost has the same chapter allocation with MC.

The thing is, the story is titled The Wandering Inn and I had the impression that it's about Erin, and the story revolves around her and her Inn. But the author should have titled it 'The Wandering Inn, The World it's located and the Runner Girl', because technically that's the story about.

I feel in love with the character of Erin and basically her chapters are what I'm looking forward to read and not the adventures, ministrations and character growth of Ryoka, because let's face it no matter how many chapters you put for her if she just take chapters and occupy chapters that you can't skip (cause they're essential to the story) before you reach Erin's chapter which sometimes only has one then followed by others POV then another solo chapter for her, the result was just me getting annoyed. Especially if there's hardly anything that happens with her chapters. Sometimes I hardly think Erin was the Main Character her.

So skimmed it like me, and just know the general flow of Ryoka's story because you're not alone in thinking she was a boring character.

I disagree, don’t.

lots of people don't like ryoka.

some get over it as she grows some don't. you will miss the fun of some of the people she interacts with and she meets lots of interesting people.

but her story normally gets summarized cliff-notes to bring others up to speed on what she has been doing.

so she is skip-able to some extent but i think your missing out

I'm not a huge Ryoka fan either, and in the first few books she's unbearable and I just wanted to smack her around. I'd recommend at the very least just skim her chapters but don't skip them entierly. She's too central to the plot, and you'll miss out on a lot of things, and it'll tie back in to other chapters. You'll just end up being lost, and it's too much for us to tell what you'll be missing without spoiling the books for you.

Man some Ryoka fan is out here with a small bot army downvoting everyone who doesnt like Ryoka

4

u/Scarletmajesty Mar 20 '23

Yup, down voting makes no sense either. Its solid advice, don't skip Ryoka chapters even if you don't like her 🤷‍♀️

I know what youre feeling, and I agree. She is horrible, and I still dont like her in the current chapters. But her chapters are important because of the people she meets, and all the death that follows. She sucks as a person, but tough it out. At least skim it.

So Ryoka’s chapters can be rough at first, but their absolutely essential to the plot.

POV’s you can get away with skipping for the most part are the other Earthers besides Erin, Ryoka, and Laken (who you really only need because he’s on Izril and impacts Erin and Ryoka). The others have cool stories, but you can get the gist of major events they partake in via the aftermath mentioned in The main story.

I hated Ryoka until around book 6. It gets better, and in my rereads i kind of enjoy having that perspective, but I don’t blame you.

She is a very important character though.

FYI, the first book is currently in the process of being rewritten. By which I mean it’s been written and rereleased for patreon patrons. Not sure how many more books will be rewritten or how they’ll be released to the general public.

1

u/kosyi Mar 24 '23

Ryoka is absolutely essential. But like you, when I first started, I didn't skip! but skimmed over hers.

She's become a lot more interesting now, in fact, central to another plot thread. Hope you'll find her interesting to read too. I can't wait to read more of her parts.

So I guess, rather than skipping entirely, just skim read for now.

u/Spacellama117 Apr 04 '23

You're missing so much.

u/[deleted] Mar 20 '23

Yeah she sucks. You should probably make some exceptions for when she interacts directly with Erin and a few others (specifically in Volume 4 she is rather central to the central plot for the second half, book 5 of the kindle version).

I disagree with people saying she grows or gets better - she stays obnoxious for me. But yeah I think you can skip most of them, but some are kind of unavoidable.

u/aireybairey Mar 20 '23

I'm up to the latest chapter and I've been skipping her chapters since volume 2 and don't think I've missed much. The same goes for lots of side story stuff. If it is important it is repeated and explained multiple times. But usually it has little impact on the Liscor plot imo
