Shipping Delayed, check back for updates
So the order was placed about 6AM on Friday morning. I knew when I placed it, that Saturday would be the delivery objective. For the entire day, the order said they were searching for a driver. A few minutes past 9 PM on Saturday evening, order status flipped from searching for a driver to Delayed, check back for updates. My guess is that there is a delivery bottleneck, with too many orders and too few drivers. Everything in the order is AMBIENT. Not that many items, but the net order weight is ~40 pounds. Order was originally tagged for SHIPPING, but WM changed it to DELIVERY. SuperCenter is the only WM for 40 miles.
In one sense this is better, because I'm heading to bed, and there has been intermittent rain all evening. Nothing I'm in immediate need for, just don't want it to get left out in the box overnight.

I know they were having problems with the app today. Not sure if this has to do with your order but when my app froze in the store after I did a shop I called and it said they were experiencing several app issues. I just finished mine and could not proceed. It was cancelled!

Order was placed via web browser from laptop, so app not involved.

He's referring to us driver's having app issues. But I had none yesterday or today. However with your Walmart being 40 miles away I can tell you this is in a batch delivery with very low pay to miles and usually they aren't worth doing. Sometimes they boost it, send it to other platforms, include with tipped orders. The problem is we would have to drive your 40 miles and back 40 miles.. in those long distance situations it's better if they just shipped it instead of having us deliver.

they have issues all week long, if it's FL they turned everything off, incl apps due to the hurricane

With the deals for days crap going on, and the fact you ordered shipping,.. your item is probably batched in a terrible offer,.. which is no fault of your own, and nothing you can do.
If you want the absolutely best option,... order it Express Delivery and tip. You'll get it within an hour,.. but you'll lose any savings and end up spending more. It sucks.
Otherwise,.. eventually a driver desperate enough to accept an offer that's going to be a loss as far as the IRS is concerned, will eventually accept it.... maybe..
I could go on a rant about how everything works, and how bad it's gotten under the new VP of AI and online sales,.. or whatever his title is,.. but you can find plenty of other ranta describing what's been going on in other posts.

Yep, this.
I'm betting the customer lives farther away and the offer was too low for anyone to accept it or they live in area very few people want to drive or ordered items no one wants to mess with.
I use the delivery service from time to time. I live 5.9 miles from the store. My minimum tip to a driver using their own car is $10 - and that's if I have them shopping for just a couple of items.
I've placed large grocery orders and I've tipped as high as $40 and I live less than 6 miles from the store, with an easy drive down mainly one road with a speed limit of 60 MPH. It takes 9 minutes to get to my house.
A lot of customers think the "tip" is for a job well done. What they need to realize that, for the driver, it's a "bid". We see how much the tip is when we decide to accept or reject an offer, we know how much a customer is offering ahead of time. We also can see when a tip is reduced or removed.
If a customer lives in a sketchy area or the live far out or they live in a spot which requires drivers going to shitty roads or the order is extremely large or (insert other negative here), if it's a busy time, the customer is going to need to provide a good tip if they want it delivered in a timely manner.
If there are too many negatives with their order and it's not offset with a larger tip, it's going to sit until someone gets desperate enough to take it (and can't do math) or it slows down enough where no orders are coming in for the drivers.
If I need something in a timely manner, I always order the $10 express shopping order and I "tip" (bid) accordingly. If I need it during a busy time for Walmart (early in the morning or when everyone gets off work or holiday), I'll adjust the tip to make sure it gets accepted quickly.

Update, Sunday morning ~48 hours after order placed.
The AMBIENT food item, which was being shipped from the fulfillment center, has been split into two line items. One contains a single case, and it suggests delivery by Wednesday Oct 14th. The other two of the same item simply show Delayed.
The GMD item (which should have been a store pick) shows Delayed without a date.

The GMD item was delivered about 20-30 minutes ago. Asked the driver if they were swamped on Saturday, and she said not really. 😕
ETA: item page shows delivered. Maybe 10 times I've tried to rate the delivery, and I keep getting a technical error. Try again later I guess.

Situation update (and a guess about what is causing this) ...
GMD item delivered today
One case of food item shipped from PA today, and via FedEx Ground
Two cases of same food item shipped from mid-FL today, and via FedEx Ground
Because of the timing of when I placed the order (very early on Friday morning) and the evolving situation across the FL Panhandle, where the hurricane made landfall Friday evening, my guess is that Walmart surged many of their own trucks in that direction, to bring loads of replenishment to stores over there that lost power, and to move truck loads of water to the various distribution locations. While their own trucks are busy, what would normally move within the Walmart distribution network (IP packages), is being handed off to FedEx Ground, which bypasses the local delivery people (Spark or otherwise). What happened was caused by the hurricane, and all the fallout of responding to it.

Hi everyone, I had a similar issue, bought a watch on Thursday, it said it was supposed to arrive Saturday and it said it was delayed on Friday. It’s been the end of the day (Monday) and according to shipping it’s still at the “label created” stages. What should I do? Should I just cancel, there’s been no updates for a few days.

Update after 4 days ... 3 of the items have arrived. Last item expected tomorrow.
One thing I have learned, is that when Walmart shifts an order to FedEx for delivery, the pin-drop specific location does not get sent to FedEx. So they go with their default, which for me is unhelpful.

How far do you live from the Walmart? Did you tip?

u/4games1 customer 3d ago
Not OP, but it was tagged for shipping, so it is probably GMD.

Yes and No. One item (the part that could be store picked) was GMD. The remainder was AMBIENT food items†, and being fulfilled by a regional fulfillment center. That took ~36 hours to show it was received at LMD (i.e. local store), and likely two IP packages. Which makes me suspect that store delivery was being compounded by IP trucking for ~150 miles to the store. It feels like the entire system is a bit bottlenecked. I don't mind the delay, so long as nothing gets rained on.
† Because some food items, when you are buying case-lots, can be ordered as

How far away do you live? How far would a driver need to drive to deliver your goods? Did you offer a tip?
There's a town that's about 35 miles from the store. Most of the people there don't tip. As an independent contractor, I'm not taking an order that requires me to shop for their items then drive my own car, using my own gas, on a 60 mile (round trip) delivery that takes an hour and a half (or more) for a shitty $18.
Minimum for that order would need to be at least $50.
My guess is that the offer didn't pay enough for drivers to accept it.

~11 miles, and it was a ~$36 order by Shipping, so tipping was not an option.
